Title: Map Development Kit
Post by: ChromeAngel on November 04, 2006, 11:46:29 PM
From the grim darkness of the far future comes the Exterminatus : Rival Species 2 - Map Development Kit. Crafted from the finest materials you too can now map for EX:RS2.

Contained within its digital walls are many wonders, including scenery parts, static meshes, and example maps that show how the various map entities work in order to get your very own Thunderhawk or Harpy cruising over the rooftops to a landing zone.

Although playable in deathmatch, its current form should be considered a development tool and NOT a playable mod as it has had most of the major content removed to act as a base from which to create your player maps.

So download (http://www.40ksource.com/files/ex_mdk2.zip) and see a little of what we have been up to.

This is a pre-release for the benefit of our community of regulars.  We will be promoting it more widely next week as part of our monthly news update.  In the mean time we ask you to keep this news to yourselves.

Yay, this is very good

If I had HL2 I'd give it a shot though I don't know a thing about mapping :P

A quick additional explantiion, its basically HL2 DM with a 40k twist. So you have the PDF troopers and the Brood Brothers (PDF corrupted by genestealers) but only the basic Hl2 weapons, although both the thunderhawk gunship and the Harpy are in game and functions as dropships (just remember to click your mouse when the thing parks or you dont leave its hold).

What we need from the community on this forum is a solid bit of play time on it, stress test it effectivly before we announce it on the front page next week.

Play it on-line with each other and try to map with it, any major bugs post them so that they can be adressed before its truly made available to the entire world.

First bug is in the installer.

I download ex_mdk, then run it.
Then I run Steam, and it's not there.
Then I restart steam several times, still not there.
When I try to run the installer again, it say "setup compleate" without installing anything.
I can't find the ex folder anywhere in my steam folder either.

I got both HL2, HL2:DM, Source SDK and SDK Base installed.
I guess the problem is with the auto-pathing in the installer.

My steam folder is in D:\Programmer\Steam

My folder is F:\Steam and it installed correctly.
Those Installers normally get the right folder out of a regiytry entry, I think.

Yes, it should do, but for some reason it doenst seem to have worked right for migB.

I've uploaded a zipped alternative for anyone else who has trouble with the installer,  You just need to extract it to your Steam/SourceMods folder.

I don't mean to be competitive, but my steam folder is in H:\All Programs\Steam (More hard drives! Go USB External!!!) and it installed fine to me. However, I must clarify if I need to have SteamAppID set to 215..?

And I managed to install the MDK correctly this time! First try and all  :D

It seems like MDK 2 have been uploaded multiple times to Moddb.
Were that different versions? If yes, do I have to uninstall the MDK and get a more recent version?
