Title: Exterminatus ported to Source SDK 2013
Post by: ChromeAngel on March 22, 2014, 12:04:00 PM
I ahve spent the last few weeks migrating the Exterminatus Source code across from the 2007 SDK to the 2013 SDK, which should hopefully bring some extra stability, faster loading times and support for VR headsets (if anyone is using an occulus rift to play EX please get in touch).

Full Download 7.90 (409,659 KB)
  • 40ksource.com installer (http://www.40ksource.com/files/Exterminatus_Alpha_7.90.exe)
  • 40ksource.com zip (http://www.40ksource.com/files/Exterminatus_Alpha_7.90.zip)

Installation instructions
  • Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer" to your steam library (it's listed under "tools").
  • Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.  You can exit once the menu has finished loading.
  • If you already have a copy of the EX alpha, delete it.
  • Run the alpha installer and follow it's instructions.
  • Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Beta 7.5 and Exterminatus Alpha listed in your library.

Tweaks
  • The stormbolter now fires a single shot twice as fast, rather then 2 shots at once.
  • The screenshot key should now work in all the menus, regardless of what key you have it bound to.
  • Objective icons are now aligned more centrally.

Known Bugs
  • No victory indicator on the scoreboard.
  • Underground tarantula on ichar IV.
  • Various sprinting issues.

The point of this test is to find out all the weird and wacky ways in which EX has been broken by it's move to the new SDK.  I'll be on the steam chat group between 19;00 and 20:00 GMT to (try and) help anyone who's having trouble getting the new version running.

After Action Report 7.90
Another small benefit of the 2013 migration is a doubling of the framerate reported by some players :D

The bugs were not as bad as I expected and it was fairly stable, one client and one server crash reported.

Speaking of servers, it looks like launching the dedicated server from Steam is horribly broken.  I've had to use the command line :P

Bugs
  • No listing in Library ( https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21236891/gameinfo.txt )
  • All players using HL2MP movement code :o
  • Cloaked lictors show up on Target IDs.
  • Player joining teams are are just named "player".
  • No team colours on messages.
  • Team colours on kills are messed up
  • Infinite bolter range
  • No victory indicator on the scoreboard.
  • Underground Tarantula on Ichar IV.
  • Tarantulas firing far too fast
  • Tarantula bullets are visible through walls
  • Stormbolter damage may be a bit too high.
  • Throwing grenades then switching to veteran combo can show the wrong pistol.

Before nerfing weapons, fix the unlimited bolter range first. No point in adding scouts if everyone can snipe from across the map.

We should also try testing Termi sprint that is slower than the stranded Astartes.Though slightly faster the normal walking speed of the normal powered armor.

Also the effect from the Zoanthrope's secondary is missing.

That seems really annoying. I know Valve is trying new OS but we shouldn't have to launch servers like it's the 90's. :-S
