Title: Exterminatus Alpha Patch 7.96
Post by: ChromeAngel on May 03, 2014, 10:03:20 AM
This week I have continued to work on ironing out the bugs in the 2013 port, I really think this could be the one.  After this we just need to focus on balancing.

Full Download 7.96 (421,665 KB)
  • 40ksource.com installer (http://www.40ksource.com/files/Exterminatus_Alpha_7.96.exe)

Install the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer
  • Navigate to the "Tools" section on your Steam games "Library"/
  • Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer"
  • Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.
  • You can exit once the menu has finished loading.

Install the latest Exterminatus Alpha
  • If you already have a copy of the EX alpha, delete it.
  • Run the alpha installer and follow it's instructions.
  • Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Beta 7.5 and Exterminatus Alpha listed in your library.

Bug Fixes
  • Replaced the C++ standard (but crashy) time formatting with my own formatting.  Let me know if you see any wierd timers.
  • Reworked the "deadmeat weapon", where a carnifex crushes players it's coarpse falls on to prevent the apparently random deadmeat kills and console spam.
  • Fixed missing 3rd person tracers on the heavybolter and tarantula.
  • Fixed missing 3rd person flamer particle effect.
  • Restored the missing tarantula in ex_orbital's marine start.

The following ZIP contains only the changes since the previous alpha.

Seems to be a problem with these DLLs, please install the following patch http://www.40ksource.com/files/ex_alpha_patch_7.96b.zip , just extract it to your sourcemods folder to overwrite the buggy files.

Turret though good at what it does, feels pitiful at a certain range. The sphere at which it starts shooting something could be larger.

After Action Report 7.96
Decent turnout all things considered.  Still several players looking like they are having trouble connecting / staying connected.  Hopefully someone will provide a DMP to locate that issue.

team/class/weapon balance felt good, we had a couple of long stalemates (which I take to be a good sign of balance if not map design).  Some of the maps are still terribly biased:
hive : tyranids (less so than it was)
tarsis : slight tyranid bias
ichar : slight tyranid bias
lycantium : slight tyranid bias
valley  : slight tyranid bias
orbital : slight tyranid bias
city : tyranids, except when marines defend well then marines all the way
thunderhawk : marines

Maybe I should mimic the way city's generator works taking 2 minutes to shutdown, during which time it can be re-captured.

I'm not sure I should have nerfed the carnifex armor, it felt a bit weak on a couple of occasions.

Terminator felt plenty dakka.  I'm happy with him now, but I think Oolon would like more dakka.

I had some lag (or lag like effects) when boltguns were being fired, I wonder if the change I made to get heavy bolter traces might have been too far reaching and increased up the net traffic.  The last couple of builds have felt more laggy.

When I use an IG based user name, easy to guess that one would say that.  ;D
Though I suggestion not implementing Termi weapons that would not allow me to make the game crash on purpose. 8)(ie particle heavy stuff).
Need to make Termi match with Fex somehow as their still not even.
