40K Source

Alpha 8.55 features a new method of connecting to EX servers as a workaround for the server browser issue.  Although this isn't as automated as I would like it should make it more convenient to connect to a server.


The ModDB mirrors unlock at 12:00 GMT, if it's busy or not working the installer can be downloaded from 40ksource.com (http://www.40ksource.com/files/Exterminatus_Alpha_8.55.exe).  Please try the ModDB first.

Install the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer

• Navigate to the "Tools" section on your Steam games "Library"
• Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer"
• Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.
• You can exit once the menu has finished loading.

Install the latest Exterminatus Alpha

• If you already have a copy of the EX alpha, delete it.
• Run the alpha installer and follow it's instructions.
• Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Alpha listed in your library.

Feature

• The server browser has been replaced with an embedded browser directed to the Steam Community group (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/exterminatusgame) page where a list of known servers is maintained.  It is shipped with a default of the IP address of the Alpha Testing server as it was at build time.  Simply lookup the server address on the page, enter it and click connect.  No more fussing about with the console to connect.

Is the new server connection too slimline?  Does it need instructions on the form to tell you what to do?  Do you need a way to get at the default server browser?

For the Future

• I want to add keyboard control to new main menu I added in 8.53.  It's a matter of polish.
• Plasma FX and Sporemine FX both need scaling down and speeding up.  I'm getting pretty close with my tool to manage them, but it's also throwing up some new technical issues.
• Also working on texturing a prop contributed by Wikkyd.
