Title: Alpha 8.57 - Menus and maps
Post by: ChromeAngel on December 18, 2016, 10:28:07 AM
Alpha 8.57 features a new main menu and visual improvements to the Tutorial and Forge maps.

Installer Alpha 8.57 (http://www.moddb.com/mods/exterminatus/downloads/exterminatus-alpha-857-installer) ( 1.03gb )

Zip File Alpha Patch 8.57 (http://www.moddb.com/mods/exterminatus/downloads/exterminatus-alpha-patch-857-zip) ( 17.75mb )

The ModDB mirrors unlock at 14:00 GMT, if it's busy or not working the installer can be downloaded from 40ksource.com (http://www.40ksource.com/files/Exterminatus_Alpha_8.57.exe).  Please try the ModDB first.

Install the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer
  • Navigate to the "Tools" section on your Steam games "Library"
  • Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer"
  • Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.
  • You can exit once the menu has finished loading.

Install the latest Exterminatus Alpha
  • If you already have a copy of the EX alpha, delete it.
  • Run the alpha installer and follow it's instructions.
  • Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Alpha listed in your library.

Tweaks
  • Main Menu has new button graphics.  I've had to drop the goal of having keyboard control of the menu because this version of the engine just doesn't support that without coding replacements for all the sub-menus and dialogs too.
  • Tutorial has been prettified by adding some more details.  Hopefully this will make a better first impression on new players.
  • Forge maps have had more detailing added to the Tyanid and marine start rooms.

Bug Fix
  • Fixed a bug in the new Find Servers window that would cause it not to connect when a full length IP address was entered.

We've hit a dead-end with Wikkyd's new prop model.  The model compiler fails with a "too many indices" error.  i'm not giving up on it yet, but doesn't feel worth spending many more hours on.

The work on the tutorial and Forge are the start of a fresh quality pass over all the maps.  Expect to see more updates in the new year.
