40K Source

Big news week, this week.  The EX Greenlight plan has reached it's conclusion.  Contributors have been getting to grips with building levels for the new CSM team, we have several rough new maps to tes in Alpha 8.62.


The ModDB mirrors unlock at 12:00 GMT, if it's busy or not working the installer can be downloaded from 40ksource.com (http://www.40ksource.com/files/Exterminatus_Alpha_8.62.exe).  Please try the ModDB first.

Install the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer

• Navigate to the "Tools" section on your Steam games "Library"
• Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer"
• Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.
• You can exit once the menu has finished loading.

Install the latest Exterminatus Alpha

• If you already have a copy of the EX alpha, delete it.
• Run the alpha installer and follow it's instructions.
• Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Alpha listed in your library.

Progress on the Greenlight plan

• Port the EX code to the latest Source 2013 code base. DONE
• Create a new Offline Tutorial map to introduce new players to EX. DONE
• Continue to improve the lighting and detailing of the maps, to make them bolder and more polished. DONE
• Create a Venom Cannon war-gear set for the tyranid warrior priced in the 75pt category. DONE
• Create a Dual-wielded Devourers war-gear set for the Carnifex. DONE
• Give marines points for killing barbed strangler projectiles.  DONE
• Create a Vox menu that doesn't block gameplay.  DONE
• Server Browser workaround.  DONE
• Steam Overlay.   FAILED (with workaround)
• Seek GW's permission to put EX on the Steam store as a free mod. REJECTED

Games Workshop's (GW) Group Legal Department replied to my email asking if it was OK to put EX on Steam. Sadly GW  confirmed my suspicion that using Steam Greenlight to distribute EX would be against their terms of use for their Intellectual Property.  Since they won't give us permission the Greenlight plan is over.  

The best I can do is try to find an alternative method of updating the mod.  This won't get EX the exposure it would get from the Steam Store, so any assistance in publicising EX would be welcomed.  In this vein WhitelightningTwister has started an Exterminatus Discord server (https://discordapp.com/invite/EhSnGj9) .


Alpha 8.62 Features

• New map ex_bunker, with Defence game-play and the Chaos team from WhitelightningTwister.
• New map ex_garage, with experimental King of the Hill game-play and the Chaos team from WhitelightningTwister.
• New map ex_temple, with team deathmatch game-play and the Chaos team from DontAsk4470.
• New player model for the Chaos Renegade class.
• ex_dropzone entities now have a OnSpawn event that mappers can use to scipt behaviours when a player spawns in particular spot

Bug Fixes

• Specialists beware! Humans are no-longer invulnerable to flame.
• ex_filter_team entities should now work correctly with the CSM team.
• ex_capture_objective entities now correctly fire their OnChaosCapture event.
• Ammo shrines should be working again now.
• The Chaos team logo should no longer get stretched in the Team selection menu.

Future
