dude, this is Warhammer 40k, the carnifex is done after games workshop stuff, like that below, not just thrown out of the dev team's mind.

So if you think the carnifex is a starcraft ripoff go complain GW.

Time for a bit of a history leason.

A long time ago when 3rd ed 40k was but a idea, Games Workshop looked into doing a 40k themed rts based on (you guessed it) Tyranids and Space Marines fighting. They asked a new company called Blizzard to look into it.

As things go the game was cancelled at a relativly developed stage and thus Blizzard had a game engine and other bits ready.

So not to waste it they made Star Craft, thus there was a lingering trace of 40k within starcraft.

The Carnifex is based of GWs own tabletop model and the designs for it (as well as most of 40k) pre-date Star Craft by some considerable time.

Fulgrim be calm, many people dont know of GW and 40k but Star Craft is a famous RTS (i dunno why, i hated it but there ya go)

Thus is the truth known.

Blizzard have picked up a rather distasteful habit for copying GW ideas. They aren't direct enough to be copyright infringement, and a lot of ignorant newbies rag out on GW for 'ripping off' Blizzard. Anyone remember that really promising MMORPG, World of Warhammer? The one that was announced months before World of Warcraft was even in the concept stage? And then copped massive flak from the critics when the project was ressurected, post-WoW. Even this rubbish 'burning crusade' expansion is loaded with knock-off.

"Hey, WoW subscriptions have taken a dip, we need a new way to make sales."
"Well, why don't we take a look at the competition, might give us some ideas."
"Hey look, they're making a Dark Crusade expansion for Dawn of War."
"New races, extra content, new storyline, woah, this is just what we need!"
"Hey, while we're at it, why don't we clone their title and logo?"
"Lord Satan will be pleased!"

Yeah I remember, it was going to be an awesome game too. Too bad Blizzard don't have anyone like us (You know, if any of us are any of the following). Imaginative, well-thinking, accurate, precise... That's why they would need people like us to tell them that they are just ripping off someone else. Greedy pigs...

Yeah...Although I don't see where you getting all this "Blizz copying GW" stuff. And WoW doesn't even have a story-line, its a fragging MMORPG! There is no "End" of the game.
Im sorry, I just don't like it when people take the piss out of a game and its makers when they probably have never played it.
And I sense a big argument being spawned out of this...

well as it goes, ive played the warcraft series a heck of alot, ive read the history, the background and know a lot of shizzle about it. and yes.. wow is just a concoxion of lots of things that were mashed together and stuck together with clear sticky tape labelled noob friendly where all the noobs will enver know the difference.
a prime example that makes me laugh -  Warcraft 3, a night elf hero called illidan, duel wield weapons etc., WoW:Burning Crusade, the new big bad guy to beat is Illidan.... where did the concept of Illidan come from you say, from Lord of the rings i say, there be an elf name Elldan! he uses duel wield etc.
to the noob eye, WoW is but a god, to everyone else, its a lod of crap with bollock ideas mixed to make a whole load of bollock with a tendancy to get people addicted for unknown reasons, but they do not realize the bollockness of the game till post-addiction stoppage.
ive got such a inkling to carry on and bollock about WoW, and the need to keep saying that WoW is bollock of the worse kind *shakes fist*
i will admit, it is ahrd to be original these days, but tell me where in WoW something is atleast imaginitive to the point where its not something from seomthing else..
and one more thing, how bollock burning crusade was, they have forced half of their highest level characters who spent many a week going to 40-man raids to get this amazing gearand then to ahve it all blow in their faces as all these new items came out that were FREE, yes FREE that were better then that glove they spent 2 months working for.

and one more thing -  WoW is a mixture of story line put together!, it partly carries onf rom the story of Warcraft 3 (Duh) and then it has some random crap plobbed in  *does the hamster dance in victory*

And half the people that play blizzard games dont even care, until someone repetedly shouts in their face "BLIZZARD COPIES EVERY SINGLE OTHER GAME/FRANCHISE EVAR!!11!!!" Then they go and look it up and see that people have drawn lines from blizzard to almost everything you could imagine, which is Bullshit.
Seriously, what is with all the warcraft hate from warhammer fans?

I'm sure their is a lot of cross inspiration going on in the Fantasy genre and their always will be, after all it's just re-hashing ancient mythology and imagery.  So everyone just chill before I lock this thread OK?

Blizzard is just not a company with new ideas.
They never do anything that haven't been done before.

That said, they usually improve the gameplay 500% of the games they rip off, which is the reason they deserve their success.

Where do you get the crazy, paranoid idea that they got that idea from DoW?
EVERYONE does that. They basicly did the same thing with WoW - BC as with WC3 - Frozen Throne.

I've got it! The title for the next WoW expansion!
Dark Burning Crusade-Craft :P
Just too similar IMO, especially seeing as there is no crusade-related content in Burning Crusade.

Kudos to Blizzard for making games with great gameplay, but WoW is not one of those games. Take your average fantasy RPG. Suck any premise of a plot from it, and give it a rudimentary background story related to the Warcraft universe. Also introduce incredibly repetitive gameplay with poorly uncreative Quests. Now, take it online, and introduce countless server bugs, downed realms, and only a handful of GM's to keep the masses of a$$hole players in check. Now, not only am I going to charge you $60 for this poor attempt at a game, I'm going to charge you money on a monthly basis to continue playing this heap of crap. My beef is not with the Warcraft universe (I actually loved WCII, but the 'cartoony' approach Blizzard took with WCIII and WoW is just too much for me), but with the poor excuse of a game WoW actually is.

And to think, they scrapped Starcraft: Ghost in favour of that...

I was a little annoyed about the copied ideas for SM and Tyranids, but seeing as I never knew it was supposed to be a 40k game first, looking at it from that perspective they're justified. But this Burning Crusade rubbish is too far. The title, and even the design of the logo are far too similar to be coincidence. As I said, there isn't even any Crusade-related content in the bloody thing! Some of the more un-learned members of this forum might now shout "But Khargoth, there wasn't any Crusading in the Dawn of War expansion either!!1!1". At first look it seems that way. Remember that these armies weren't on Kronos at the beginning, only the Necrons and the Tau were there pre-DC, they all went out of their way to come to Kronos to take it as their own, which is pretty Crusade-esque to me.
