Title: Call that a knife? This! Is a knife.
Post by: ChromeAngel on December 17, 2006, 05:44:34 PM
A month on from the release of the Map Development Kit (http://www.40ksource.com/downloads.php)  and we've been hard at work getting things into the game and testing them out.  So far the work on the playable version is going very well indeed, we've already chalked off several items on the plan.  You can see how we're coming along by the screen shots of out Alpha testing on the Media Page (http://www.40ksource.com/media.php).

(http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/BolterInGame_Thumb.jpg) (http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/BolterInGame.jpg)(http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/BoltPistolInGame_Thumb.jpg) (http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/BoltPistolInGame.jpg)(http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/KnifeInGame_Thumb.jpg) (http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/KnifeInGame.jpg)
The standard imperial class, the tactical marine, has already got his main battle gear and HUD in-game, they're kicking bug thorax already :D

(http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/TeamMenu_Thumb.jpg) (http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/TeamMenu.jpg)(http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/WarriorComboInGame_Thumb.jpg) (http://www.40ksource.com/refs/media/WarriorComboInGame.jpg)
The team selection menu is in-game and working slickly, allowing us to test the Tyranid standard class's weaponry and HUD.  A Deathspitter and Talons is combination to be feared...
The acid! It burns!!!

Player animation is ongoing, we're still looking for experienced animators to help with the player models.  It's also getting to the point where we need custom sound effects, so if you're interested in mixing us up some sound effects please, get in touch (http://mailto://me@chromeangel.co.uk).

Here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.  More news from EX in 2007.

they are indeed copywrited, taking them or anything else from a 40k game of any kind is illegal.

The buildings look awesome. I'm sure that big open area will evenually be buried under craters and rubble...

What kind of sound effects were you after Chrome?

Wing beats for the Harpy,  flying, hydraulic and servo motor sounds for the Thunderhawk, footsteps sounds for the marines and various sizes of Tyranid.

Tyranid organic weapons fire, out of ammo, ammo regeneration, projectile splatter, talon strikes (various sizes if talon).  Tyranid pain and grunt/hiss noises.

Blade/talon swooshing noises.  Meltagun firing sizzle, out of ammo and reload.

Just off the top of my head ;)

Just two recommendations:

For the meltagun I suggest you use flamethrower-like sounds...
For the Power Armour, since it weighs roughly 90 pounds and it's made of metal, I'd say get a metallic stomping sound for footsteps.

Hello,

My name is Michael, aka Grandmaster B. I will be trying to create some custom sound effects for Rival Species 2.

I've also submitted a longer post in the User Discussion "hi i'm new" sticky.

I'd love to hear any input on what you think the sounds should be. Please be as specific as possible. I'll do my best to appease as many of you as possible.

- Grandmaster B
