Title: New Classes Post by: Reaper on August 23, 2007, 10:02:15 PM You guys will eventually come out with more classes, right? Because i would love to see a Broodlord duking it out with a Commander, or a Hive Tyrant getting swamped by Terminators and Assault Squads. Or even Bikers gunning down some Genestealers.
Title: New Classes Post by: zenarion on August 23, 2007, 11:05:55 PM I am pretty sure there is a big NO to most things you said, although, there has been speculation about the potential of Genestealers/Broodlords in Exterminatus. These type of discussions are pretty much on hold at the moment, since the attention of the development team was allocated to bringing the simpler classes and weapons into the game for the first release.
Title: New Classes Post by: migb on August 23, 2007, 11:13:55 PM Most of the really heavy stuff, like Terminators, Commanders & Broodlords were left out.
The reason, as I understand the devs, were massive problems with balancing - it's simply not fun when some players are many times stronger than yourself. But who knows what will happen after first release? Title: New Classes Post by: Typheron on August 23, 2007, 11:35:18 PM the "official" line is no.
However once the public have there hands on the game and we see how things are shaping up, as well as what the public wants to see (heavily filtered for spam) that line will probably change. one thign we do plan to add is more weapons to give a greater tactical choise for the marines, and more brood types for the nids. anything else is conjecture till after the public version. Title: New Classes Post by: Reaper on August 24, 2007, 10:25:09 PM Thats what i meant, that you'll expand after the first release. I think it would be a good idea to give the 'rines special weapons depending on kills and or kill-to-death ratio (plasma guns are already balanced!). And assault and bikers are a bad idea in retrospect, because instead of team-based play you'll have like two bikers, three assault guys, one tactical rine, and two specialists running around, like in old RS. But there cannot be a nid invasion without some 'stealers...
Title: New Classes Post by: Typheron on August 25, 2007, 12:27:35 AM Stealer is on the cards, but only time will tell what happens to it.
The danger is that we over do it and get a replay of RS1 and too many classes. Title: New Classes Post by: Doombringer on September 07, 2007, 11:48:37 PM Genestealer would be sweet because I'm making a space hulk map, which means terminators VS genestealers :D

Title: New Classes Post by: Typheron on September 08, 2007, 02:13:16 PM No termis or stealers planned at this time.
a partial stealer model was made, but only for evaluation purposes and never planned to go in game. Title: New Classes Post by: Doombringer on October 29, 2007, 11:12:27 PM the only thing that is possible AT ALL is terminators and genestealers. Almost definitely, nothing else will be done, and it is extremely unlikely that there will be no termi's or stealers.
Title: New Classes Post by: Typheron on October 30, 2007, 01:15:41 PM Well actually no, this is not RS2:space hulk.

Title: New Classes Post by: Typheron on October 30, 2007, 05:22:09 PM Space Hulk, its the Termi and Stealer hotbed.
However as i said this is not a space hulk mod, and as such any additional classes would _in theory_ have to fight alongside everything else. Thats kinda the point, there will be no way to limit classes like in RS1 when mapping. A stealer or termi would have to fight just like everything else, thats one of the reasons the model was never finished as it would basically be a warrior with no ranged attack at all and less health. So whats the point of having it? A better use of this thread would be theorise possable uses for a stealer in the game context, or any other class for that matter. Please when doign so bear in mind the FAQ about things. Title: Re: New Classes Post by: ashxu on October 31, 2008, 11:51:40 AM I think that yes, you should include more classes. Usually it's Marines Vs Chaos....
anyway, i think that vehicles should be eventually included. Of course, if your going to do this, your going to have to heavily modify the Source engine. |
