Title: The Sounds of Silence - Why its so quiet
Post by: Typheron on October 03, 2007, 02:11:27 PM
Ok so if you have not noticed its been a bit on the quiet side round here of late, and im here to do a mini update for all outside the team so you know.

The removal of the Thunderhawk Spawn system has left us with a few problems which were tyring to correct.

Currently Chromeangel is dedicating most of his free time to re-doing the Map Dev Kit as the removal of the thunderhawk/harpy requires tweeking of the spawning system to make sure everything works right. This has uncovered a few bugs that he is currently working to squash and thus has slowed down the main development of the alpha. On the plus side the new MDK will have a tyranid in there for size testing so you will get a look at one of our critters in motion.

While that has been going on Chrome has helped me to write and submit an article for the warseer.com e-zine Firebase, so expect to get a little lookie into how we work in there.

Additionally ive entirly gutted a map i was working on and re-built almost 90% of it in order to expand and enhance it. A lot of displacement maps have been used so once the MDK is done expect screenshots nof it in action. Darkwulf is also aiding and abetting me by creating several areas for use within said map.

Other maps are also being worked on by 3rd parites so we hope to see more of them soon.

so things are happening, although they mianly involve lines of code or maps. Things are expected to start moving in a more direct sence shortly, we are very close to starting serious alpha testing over the next few months, so you wanna keep a eye out of announcements on that.

And as always if you wanna map, or have already started let us know and we can assist you.

Im informed by chrome that only one major bug remains (its a game killer) within the new MDK.

With its resolution should come swift awesomeness.

Title: another update
Post by: Typheron on October 15, 2007, 02:12:20 PM
we are so veyr very close to release of the 2nd MDK its frustrating. Currently i have a version in my possesion  and all is well except for a small Tyranid related bug that crashes the game (is that small? i dunno) when you test things.

So please stand by as the release of the 2nd MDK will happen very soon, and then things can get back to normal (or as normal as it gets round here).

I think I agree with Reaper. Obviously having a functional SDK for the team is important but I wouldn't worry so much about releasing it to the public until after the mod has been released. Whist the team has internal testing to get a good feel for how the mods going to play third party mappers won't have this experience until release. I believe that without this you can't really set about creating decent community maps.

we would have had to go back and gut the spawning system anyway and as our maps are being done by 3rd parties to the project (mainly) it has been deemed neccicary.

on the plus side we do have a fully functional game and to fionish we need the following:

2-3 starting maps
some additional coding
some additional effects
some more sounds.

and that is it people, were so close to using our l33t dev status to pwn you all its infuriating. Im drafting a new news post shortly after this post so hope to see that soon.
