sure, we all love them, but shouldn't we have an alternative chapter like Dark Angels or Imperial Fists to go along with them as well?

It's been discussed before, and as I remember the conclusion was more or less this:
- It would take too much work (especially with balancing) to have individual chapters with different special equipment, different classes, different special rules etc.
- If someone want to convert all of the artwork (character models + weapons + vehicles) into another chapter, they're welcome, but atm. the team has no plans to do so.

We went through all this before we even started. I think chrome still has a mantis warrior hanging around somewhere.

Just found the answer in the FAQ.

A: Only if you make the skins and models yourself. Were using Ultramarines at the moment thanks to their affiliation with the Tyanids. We don't plan to do any chapter specific stuff as that would basically be a new race being added. However if anyone was to make chapter specific models and equipment it may be added to the mod if its of a good quality.

second, the effort required to re-skin, we feel, is better put somewhere else or done by a 3rd party. To add another SM type to the game means creating a new team for people to play on and probably new character classes dependant on that SM chapters.

Im a Blood Angels man myself so i know how you feel and how cool it would be to have stuff liek that, but we just dont have the man power or resources to pull it off convincingly.

Plus the Ultramarines have a long standing accociation of killing Tyranids (especially there 1st companys last stand) and thus suit the role as well as being a better known chapter.

Its a case fo cant poleae everyone so go with what we can.

I'm not particular fan of the UM, but we did need to decide on one chapter for the reasons discussed.  I have created the marine skins with the aim of being able to re-skin them fairly easily.  I'll release the skin sources to beta testers and again publicly after the release to enable someone else make more chapters.  The same goes for the tyranid skins too.

Actually thats not true at all. Camo can be applied under special circumstances where it is needed as dictated by the codex astaris.

read the 2nd ed codexes you must.

though most of the time if they need camo type thing they send in scouts.

imperial fists go into battle all with camo colours matched to the terrane they fight on. but some silly chapter master do love there yellow

I'll be making skins for the Blood Ravens, Dark Angels and a few custom chapters. All I need are the skins from ChromeAngel and/or Typheron.

No content gets given out till full beta release.

Just the way its done, however a reskin should be super easy as long as you own something better than microsoft paint to do it.
