Inteded to be some sort of conseptual art for rs2.

Have in mind that this isnt the finnished product, but comments is why I made the thread so plz :) make some...

The pose is not very dramatic, I think it should be.
Make us view him from below or above, and give him a more concentrated look, he actually seems quite relaxed atm.
You can't see the face of the hormagaunt - a pity.
The greatest problem with the SM pose is that he don't really looks at anything. He should look at the head, the body or into the sky (in triumph), at his sword or directly into the eyes of the viewer.

If it's hard to change this at the drawing, don't bother - but think of it when you draw the rest.

I do have a bit of constructive criticism though:

As migb said, the pose isn't very dynamic, he doesn't seem to be doing anything much other than, well, posing.

The head could use some work, it looks a bit out of proportion to me.

The eagle on the chest plate doesn't look much like the ones on the models, and it looks like it's painted on to a flat surface rather than having any depth or shape of its own.

That's all I've got. Once again, excellent work.

I love the shading on the gaunt, just the right kind of shinyness :D

Immeditely the marine's chest strikes me as being too wide and too deep.

Are those tallon marks on his leg?

It's just that I've been a lot at a drawing-webpage ( http://www.tegnebordet.dk) with several proffetional artists that draws close to photo-realistic.

And i dont think he should be looking at the head of the nid,
it gets so poetic, and I dont want that.

Not supposed to be talon marks but until colouring they stay this way.

And dont expect him to look like a model/figure minature because I have no one to go after.  (and I dont want any) Though the eagle is going to get changed.

And i agree it is undramatic, but in this pic it will stay that way, I started making the head and just continued (had another head form the beginning :P)...

ur skilled :-D how long do u need to paint this and do u do it out of ur mind or whit a model in front of u? what kind of pencil do u use?

i was starting (or trying) to do such concept work too.
i mainly drawed anime "people" until now and i guess its much different  :wink:

I use adobe photoshop cs2 and Trust 1200 Wireless tablet.
This is from my mind, checking sometimes how a spacemarine acually looks on pics but nothing else.
And I do not fancy anime ppl or anime in any way, im glad your trying to do some real artwork :)

hmm i would like to see a colour version of this. well very dark colours.

could use something liek this for the back imige when you click on the RS2:E button to activate RS2:E2

or for the menu screen. In RS we had the World Eater marine..

I was thinking of having a Warcraft III-like score screen. :idea:
So when the game or round ends, a picture shows up as background to the player statistics. If the marines have won, this one shows up, if the Tyranids win a picture of a 'Nid on top of a dead SM shows up.
Or we could have different menu backgrounds, based on what race you are currently playing.

cant HL2 do animated background, i seam to remember that they would load the background to your last used save or something from the level you were last on. Could we not create an animated background depening on the race you last used as mentiond above with an animated area either with space marines standing about in it or the same area overrunn with nids?

We could do that yes, but it would take about 5min to just start the game, and thats no fun :P


The picture is more nowadays, I've starded to colouring it but I suspect at least 1 week more work on it before next release which would be the final.

I think the reason the HL2 savegames 'still shots' are loading so fast, is that there isn't any models on them, just props and terrain. Would have been nice, though  :(
But the still shot might be done as background when the score screen pops up in the end (think Dystopia here), showing the objective overrun by Tyranids, or held by the SM after who won.  :)

something as in DoW might be appropriate? as a view of a battlefield, and not maybe a marine, but a statue standing in the foreground. the base of it covered with xenoblood ^^

If the Marines win you could have a banner on the objective slowly flapping in the breeze.  If the 'nids win you could see the objective and the area around it covered in wierd alien growth, with maybe a couple of capillary towers tossed in for good measure.
