Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Contributions / Re: Forum Maintenance

In order to improve the stability of the web presence, we've decided to shut down registration for the forum. That is mostly because the legions of spam bots are relentlessly registering new accounts while the legions of Exterminatus fans are using the steam group instead of this forum. (If I am not mistaken, there are only very few new posts this year.) Of course any registered user can still post and manual registration is still possible.
In the same instant I will also finally update the forum software to the most recent version (with it's security updates) in the hopes that this forum stops spamming my system logs with errors caused by legacy PHP code.
Update 1: I've now deactivated user registration and updated the forum version to 1.1.21 which went entirely painless. I'll write another update once I know what the outcome with respect to the system logs is.

We are moving the web site to a new location. That includes the forum and therefor I have to put it into maintenance mode for about two days. It takes about two days for the DNS to update to the new location. So if you decide to make a comment or discuss a topic during the next two days, it's likely to get lost during the move. I'll update this topic as soon as the move starts and again once it has finished.
Update 1: As of now, 13:00 12.07.2015, the move is on progress. It may be ongoing for about two days due to DNS server updates being pushed so slowly.
Update 2: As of now, 23:25 13.07.2015, the move has been finished :-).

Hallo,

yes, it was digsite for the most part. (it was the map we were playing first, and later problems resolved.)
the jumping issue seems to me as if mappers didn't really take care of the large tyranids as much as of the marines. A solvable problem in my eyes. just let the nids jump properly and introduce natural barriers around the map. either by a skymodel and an unaccessable area that hides the transition or bust plain walls of different kinds (rocks, houses, rabble).

Sad to see that face :-(. I like the looks of your new version though! I can't distinguish from the old version, since I wasn't active here when you posted it. Do you want to continue on your map and has it reached a testable state? In a note for possible improvements: When designing maps for the old RS1, I liked to add kinda gothic elements to the architecture to give it the special feel of the 40k universe. I see you make good use of the models, but encourage you to try adding some pillars, church style frames and similar things to your walls.

Been playing the new version for the first time today. I have to say, the maps have positively improved compared to 5.03 (I skipped 5.04). Weapon effects were better, we had nice overlays for missions, and the tyranids actually seemed to have a chance (which is a huge improvement comparing to the older versions).
On the other hand, it seemed as if my computer had a harder time to handle this version. That may just mean, I need a new one ;-). Yet, for my enjoyment, I'd most wish for the tyranids movement to be a bit smoother. that meaning, I'd like to be able to jump over obstacles. Currently it feels like the jumping is rather a little hop and you're barely able to overcome stairs. I found myself rather confused in situations where I actually thought I'd be going somewhere else, but was stopped by some small fence or other piece of rabble.

my first impressions:
I was playing tyranid warrior all the time. - the ranged weapon doest give you much of a feedback, specifically its hard to track it.. did i hit? did i miss? did that play a role? - the closed combat weapon doesnt give you much feedback either, but you clearly can take out one or two marines if you manage to survive a few seconds in cc with them. - at some point i cant sprint anymore, but why? my right side 'energy' is still full...
in general, the love given to the classes seems unbalanced in favor of the marines, so if id vote on anything, then it'd be to polish the tyranids.
the map we were playing looked nice. the collision management could be given some love to avoid stucky situations.
sorry for not writing the positive stuff, but im politically incorrect :-P. love the game though ^^.
