Suggestion - heavier footstep sounds.
'nids are big, carnifexes are HUGE, but playing as one rarely gives you the feeling of being as such. One simple way to improve the feel of both space marines and tyranids in general, is to give them louder, clankier/bassier footsteps.

Suggestion: Set up/Tear down times for the heavy bolter - Whiles the current system isn't bad per-say, it's simply not that satisfying to trudge around with no change of pace.

I propose A system wherby the base speed of a heavy weapons marine is the same as a normal marine, but can 'deploy' becoming immobile on the spot.
Whiles undeployed, recoil is high and bullets spread everywhere onto the point of near uselessness. However after a second or two taken to deploy, you come to the current accuracy and recoil levels.

This will build up a good tension-release rythem, where you dash from vantage point to vantage point, weak and vulnerable, but when you reach your destination and set up, you have awsome power.

This also encourages team-work as the heavy rrquires his team-mates to keep pesky 'nids off his back!

4  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / A few idea's from me on: January 06, 2006, 10:22:34 PM
I tried to post this message before but for some reason or another it didn't work, anyway i've finally got to writing it up again, anyway enough of me rambling, onto the idea's.

1. Throwing stuff! - ok so perhaps not the best name for an idea but here's the basic idea (i've said this before in the RS forum) phykers could use thier powers like gravity guns, dragging heavy objects, debree, bodies and things, and flinging it at the enemy, This would make the phyker classes far mroe interesting, I mean, who doesn't like gravity gunning? and perhaps different tiers of power could be bought, the higher the tier the heavier the object? from breeze blocks to land raiders! also perhaps this could be implemented for larger tyranids (if they are Players)  but have it so that they have to be really close to pick it up. otherwise you could use the AI's ability to chuck barrels and stuff at people. and tip land raiders. Just an idea.

Another idea is that why not implement different Bolter rounds? their are loads in the w40k fluff, silenced stalker shells, helfire rounds, and so on, I was thinking perhaps have different rounds for different situations, adding tactical deph. (if it's A.I enemies though I have to warn you that Half-life 2 A.I has a bug in it so that it can't react to sound.)

Just two idea's.

New suggestion: Dodge move.
As seen in "the specialists" HL mod, or in the Max Payne games. The player throws himself to the ground in one direction, to advoid attacks.
I think it would spice up the close-combat, if a Marine throws himself to the ground to gain an extra second of shooting at the 'Nid. But as he hits the ground he is trapped, it will take him about two seconds to get to his feet, to seconds that his enemy are not about to give him...
The throw/dodge move could also be used by assault units, both Tyranid and Marine. The warrior advances straight at the shooting marine, dives below his spraying bolter and chops off his legs...

It sounds great, but I think it's beneath a Space marines dignity to throw themselves onto the floor. on the other hand space marines are smart, they will do whatever is needed to acheive thier objective... so they may indeed throw themselves backwards to get out of the claws of a gribly, and perhaps have them get up like in DoW, leaping up from the ground.
