1  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / Re: Really enjoying the changes on: October 01, 2012, 06:09:05 AM
glad you enjoyed all the hard work of many people , but we are not stopping there

Glad to hear you guys are still pressing forward, always good to see more content helps keep it interesting  Cheesy

Welcome back Silveralen.  I'm glad you like the changes so much you took the time to actually write and tell us.

If you think of the 2nd tier as being specialists that reinforce the weaknesses in the basic tier 1 classes it doesn't seem quite so strange.  I wish i could say I planned  it that way ^^

I was actually wondering if it was planned or just a happy coincidence lol. But it doesn't really matter, the end result is a success!

I recently came to the game after a break and I really enjoyed alot of the changes made since I last left. Apothecaries, while somewhat odd to play, are a welcome addition, the new biovore is very well done, and genestealers are a welcome addition to the tyranid's starting line up. The models for all 3 also look great, as do the new effects. I also like that the carnifex and zoanthrope changed tiers.

I do find it somewhat odd that space marines at tier 2 are primarily close combat wile tyrands at tier 2 are priamrily long-med range, as opposed to other tiers where this is reversed, it isn't unbalanced or anything, I just thought it was an odd contrast.

All in all just wanted to say I thought you guys were doing an excellent job, for what it is worth.
3  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / Charge attack? on: March 05, 2011, 09:30:39 PM
I just had a thought, might be cool if Tyranids had a charge attack to help get in cc, sortof a rechargeable short range sprint attack. Just a random thought.

ah I see sorry  bout that, I always heard it as the game mode where most kills=win so I thought we had a new game mode on the way.

Err, this game is going to be team deathmatch? Or did you just misspeak and mean capture and hold? Sorry just threw me in a loop.

Ah I see, yeah that is a major issue. You've apparently already considered most of my suggestions obviously lol sorry I force you to keep updating me.

Fex are T2, right, but Nids need that bulky tank to stand against the ranged weapons of marines. They force marines to focus him instead of his fragile brothers, and that makes up for the power level of the nid T2 classes and the lack of proper ranged combat.

You do realize Marines are at a huge disadvantage in cc ranges? For instance, the blue console in Hive is very hard for a Marine team to cap, because their are 3-4 blind corners and 2 places where nids can drop right on their heads. A terminator in front, with his tankieness, forces the nids to attack him while the other marines focus their fire on them, much as a Carnifex forces marines to fire at him ignoring the Tyranid Warriors. It is the same idea.

In short, if Tyranid gets a class which allows them to semi nullify the range advantages of the Marines, ie the Carnifex, then it is perfectly reasonable for marines to also have a tank class which stalls Tyranids and allows them to remain in ranged combat longer. If Tyranids stand a chance moving in from long range, Space Marines get a chance in short cc ranges.

I know it's early, people can change their vote (I think I left that option on) so it is just to get votes of people who only come on the forums once every week or two.

Also I'd never heard of one of the (I guess) newer Tyranids the Trygon. Personally I think it'd make an interesting tier 3. Or Tyranid guards, the newer modles for them are very cool. I can actually do some modeling, so if that's the main reason your considering another carnifex with improved ranged weapons I could help.

yeah, it is early, I just figured since besides the devs and a few others people don't use this all that much, putting it up as soon as possible seemed wise.

The one good thng about termi is he gives space marines a class that can actually push up in confined areas, like some bits of hive which were all but impassable before. Also, warriors should be having their asses handed to them by a termi, 3-4 tacticals often get their asses handed to them by a carni, and he is just a tier 2. I assumed by in triplicate you meant you needed 3 warriors to really hurt a terminator btw. Also remember Tyranids have Genestealers coming, and witht he ambush potential and speed they should be better tier 1 the warriors.

Thrope is still meh, though a little less meh, but I'll still take a carni 9/10 times. Same with veteran, never found a compelling reason to use it instead of specialist.

Tyranids need a tier 3 class I'd say, so after genestealers I'll bet that'll be in the works.

Oh god the group I played with just banned Psykers, end of story. 3 times a Psyker ended up killing our entire group being an idiot. Being an idiot=psychic power against people the guardsmen could take with just his bayonet.

Just curious, I'm wanting to see whether the terminators are having as big effect as I think.

Also if everyone else thinks I'm wrong the devs won't have to listen to me whine  Cheesy

I think the devs are staying away from healing at this point, could unbalance things a bit. Also not sure how true that would be to fluff, but a cool idea nonetheless.

Well I guess we could have ai ravener/gargoyle hybrids........... lol

A thought occurs, altering the sound file the rebels access could prevent the Gordon problem, and because the basis of their ai is following and shooting, wouldn't that script work perfect for a Homagaunt? The sound file is the bit I'm not as sure about. After all, Homagaunts shoot, something not written into Antlion code anyways. Unless I'm confusing Homagaunts and Termagaunts.

Idea, Ravener as a new tier 2 class, then buff the Carnifex to tier 3. Or toss in Hive Tyrant Guards instead of Raveners.

Reasoning- The Carnifex should be an engine of destruction and godly terrifying. It just feels better at tier 3 for me with buffs. The main reason though is that Tyranids really need a powerful tier 3 melee class, and it's hard to imagine something bigger, stronger, and tougher then a Carnifex. I haven't seen the newest codex, but they all seem ok. I pulled this off another post but here is a view of many of the models.

The PnP role playing game? If your trying to find a group online, you'll have better luck on a more dedicated website.
