It might not always look like it but the EX team welcomes all contributions, however we do reserve special privileges for a our team members.  This post is to put in writing why and what our policy is for letting folks join our team.

There are some folks on the interweb who are just out for what they can get (game assets, source code or just play the game before anyone else) and they sometimes don't have much respect for copyright or intellectual property.

When you turn up here or on IRC or contact us by email we don't know you from Adam, so to protect the teams work from the bad people I just described and keep us out of legal trouble we kind of have to assume you're one of them.

So the recruitment policy is our attempt to keep them out of the team, it's a trust issue.  Basically the policy is looking for contributors to demonstrate their ability to create their own content, so they don't have to steal ours, or anyone else's.  We ask would be team members to contribute a suitable amount of work to the mod, involve themselves in EX community (either here or on IRC)  before we invite them into the team.

Sadly this rules out a lot of enthusiastic young gamers who want to help, but have not had time to develop the skills to contribute to the project.  If this sounds like you do let us know, we will need lots of players for stress testing before EX is released to the great gaming public.

Previously we have set the number of contributions from modellers at 5 distinct models of a usable standard (which must also be UV mapped).  Darkwulf was the last modeller to do so.

For sound technicians were looking at a threshold of 5 usable sounds.  Were still looking for someone suitable to join the team under these criteria.

In the case of other areas of contribution, coding and maps being a larger pieces of work were looking for one "quality" contribution.  Sorry but I cant be more precise.

If it sounds like a lot of fuss that is because team members get access to all the sources contributed to EX, a stronger say over the direction of the mods development, play the mod before anyone else and use of the team forum and wiki.

Yes, indeed, the exterminatus team cannot afford to  welcome people who will not bring improvement to the project, or who wish to help but for bad reasons.

At the same time, i think the team would be happy to have the help of even more people. As You (ChromeAngel) said,  the problem is trust.

I am very excited with the Exterminatus mod, as most of the forum members. And i would like to help too, but i am aware that, for the moment, i can not bring any valuable help to you. Anyway, i am practicing mapping (i am very very beginner) and i wish to be able to make a good map for Exterminatus one day, maybe in a few months. I have downloaded the MDK, i go to the valve wiki and try to learn as much as i can. I already have a map project for exterminatus.

At the same time i have a project with friend for making a unreal mod. I hope to acquire a good experience that will allow me to help the team in a way or another.

I wish to help the team, but i do not wish to join it. I am a forum member, and that is enough : )
