Sorry for the lateness of this news post, it has been a quiet month in the Exterminatus camp. Our sound technicians have been struggling to produce the sound effects that would bring EX to life, so we're looking for more help in that department. If you can sample, edit and mix please mail me at leader@40ksource.com . The rest of us have been testing and tweaking the systems, weapons and computer controlled Termagaunt broods.

We are also looking for an additional coder to develop improved effects for the weapons in EX. Help in the coding department at this stage could speed up the release of EX by a couple of months. If you can help with the coding please mail me at leader@40ksource.com. As you can see from these alpha testing shots our weapons are plenty effective even without the extra flashes and particle system we would like.

Work has started on getting the last of our player models, the mighty Carnifex. With exams out of the way and summer holidays coming up the team is looking forward to completing more of Exterminatus next month. If you haven't had a chance to try our MDK yet Typheron has posted a couple of short movies, showing our Thunderhawk and Harpy spawn system in action on YouTube.  We hope to bring you some more action oriented movies next month.

on a side note we now have a super secret alpha test server up 24/7 for all our testing needs...

..maybe you will find it if you look hard enough.

It's looking pretty good. Just a quick question - are those test maps? Only ask because the browny/red map is abit, well, browny/red Smiley And the Tyranids seem to be the same kind of browny/red. It makes the level look alittle bland - kind of like the old quake maps. Need more contrast! Oh and I suppose technically browny/red is actually called orange. Come on stupid brain start working properly.

Yes, they are both test maps.  In the red map (landingpad) I have tried to give the effect of being on a planet being invaded by the Tyranid hive fleet.  As part of their invasion tactics tyranids flood the atmosphere with billions of spores, to corrupt the biosphere into tyranic life forms and begin their absorption.  The effective upshot of this is planet wide clouds in the colour of the hive fleet filtering the sunlight to that same colour.

The visual effect is somewhat of an interpretation of the tyranic spores on my part.  Red spores, red clouds, red light.  Sometimes we want to embrace the bold colours and toonishness of 40k other times we want to go for the darkly gothic atmosphere.  What does everyone think? Red light or no?

I took that to mean you liked the red lit screenshots and my interpretation of the fluff.

We haven't had time to devote to effects like tracers yet, that's why we're looking for another coder to develop that aspect.  It could happen Wink
