1  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / Silence fills the void… on: May 07, 2008, 12:58:32 AM
Isn't there a way to modify the way brood AI works?
By overridding some methods or else.

I suppose that it is not just that easy, if chromeangels has spent 3 month on that, without succeeding.

But really, isn't there a way to modify this stuff?

Isn't there a way to give a distinct ID to players and make the brood follow a specific player, based on his ID, instead of just following the nearest guy?

What if you divide the tyranid team in as many sub teams as there are players. So each sub team would be composed of only one player. So you would have only one brood master per sub teams and the brood wouldn't be confused.

But as i understand, they are coded in a way to be only able to recognize friends or foes.

Isn't there a way to add a third state? Friends, foes, and neutral. Each group of AI tyranids would follow only one person, and that person would be the "friend"?
So the tyranid player A would have a brood. The brood would be set in such a way to obey the friends players (but there would be only one), to do nothing against neutral players (who would be everyone in tyranid team, minus the particular player who is "the friend") and to attack enemies.
The brood of player B would be set the same way, and so on.

I may be talking nonsense, as i know nothing about mod programming.
2  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / Achievements in EX? on: February 18, 2008, 06:09:48 PM
Oh sorry, i must have misunderstood your statement.
So it looks that i totally agree with you now.

But still, you said

It is a very good idea for the achievmenements to be visible on the models.
You suggest that achievements should be only visible on the player model and nowhere else. Why not. But wouldn't it be nice for the achievements to appears also on the player's profile or something like that?

Anyway, i like the idea of achievements, even if it appears only on models. It will add a "cool" dimension to the game. So when you'll see a veteran-looking marine, you'll be like "this guy must have pretty awesome skills".

I also agree that achievements should not improve your character's abilities. Otherwise it will become something like an hybrid fps/rpg game : you'll fullfill achievements and your character will get better in-game. I don't think it is the goal of the dev team to add such a rpg orientation to the mod.

Anyway guys, you're doing great job and we trust you, you'll make a good mod.

I had questions regarding the dropships. So people just come out of the drop ship by waves (for instance each 30 seconds, or each minutes), am i right?

The problem with that is that i sometimes wanted to be able to spawn players in very different areas of the map. Is that possible with that system?

I guess that you can use the same dropship and make it land at different places. I saw something about random path.

Also, is it possible to have a dropship that stays in "landed" state?

I didn't complete any Ex map, not even small test maps, because i have a problem with requiered entities.

So can you explain what are the minimum entities that one need to run an Ex map?

Dropship and landing zone, dropship path. But how do the  "objective" entity works? And what about the gameplay entity? Can you explain just a little bit chromeAngel? (or anyone).
9  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Contributions / Recruitment Policy on: April 08, 2007, 08:50:21 PM
Yes, indeed, the exterminatus team cannot afford to  welcome people who will not bring improvement to the project, or who wish to help but for bad reasons.

At the same time, i think the team would be happy to have the help of even more people. As You (ChromeAngel) said,  the problem is trust.

I am very excited with the Exterminatus mod, as most of the forum members. And i would like to help too, but i am aware that, for the moment, i can not bring any valuable help to you. Anyway, i am practicing mapping (i am very very beginner) and i wish to be able to make a good map for Exterminatus one day, maybe in a few months. I have downloaded the MDK, i go to the valve wiki and try to learn as much as i can. I already have a map project for exterminatus.

At the same time i have a project with friend for making a unreal mod. I hope to acquire a good experience that will allow me to help the team in a way or another.

I wish to help the team, but i do not wish to join it. I am a forum member, and that is enough : )
10  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / sidestep movement. a suggestion/idea. on: March 14, 2007, 09:36:22 AM
I don't know whether fast sidesteps are a good idea or not (that's why you should have added a third choice for you poll, like " i don't know" ).

But what would be nice would be to have the marines having special abilities given by their armor, such as sprint, or higer jump, or whatever.

I really enjoyed the sprint in HL², and i thought that it could be nice to see the marines having that kind of abilities too.

Now when i think more deeply about the fast side steps, i don't know if it is gonna be that usefull. Like ChromeAngel said, maybe the sprint+straffe combo would be better.

Go on , great work team.
12  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / Chaos Space Marines? on: August 18, 2006, 02:25:07 PM
I played RS1 long ago, when there was not so many races i think. We could play marines (black templars), eldars and chaos SM. That was quite good. I think we must find the right balance for the number of species.

Two races can seem a bit too few, but we'll see anyway. When you play counter strike you only have 2 : terro's and CT's... And they are very similar actually. But in the end, you still get much fun playing cs.

I just can't wait to  play tyranids. I guess they'll be very fast and that they be able to make quite long jumps... At least for some of them. So that is just gonna be very cool.

Lets start with two races, we'll see afterwards.
13  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Contributions / my own space marine on: July 31, 2006, 04:33:16 PM
The space between his two legs must be wider, and the arms are too straight too.

The main problem of that space marine is that he is standing in a very unnatural position. Otherwise, i think it is a good marine, you just have to work a bit on the way he stands. You must work a bit on the the pelvis area either.

My conclusion is that i like that marine, he is well done, but you must work on  the way he stands, and make it more natural.

To Eltharyon,

This is the kind of comments that gets nobody further.

You should say that more kindly. It is important on a forum too keep a good relationship between members, so you must pay attention and not say things in a way that can hurt people.

EDIT: why the hell is that quote tag not working?

14  Exterminatus - Rival Species 2 / Player Discussion / THE "hi i'm new" thread on: July 28, 2006, 01:01:33 PM
Hi i am Storm-wolf. I am new here. I played a bit on RS1 (was great fun) and now i just can't wait to play exterminatus.

This new project looks very good. I like the idea of some AI controled bots helping players.
I trust the team and i am sure you'll achieve great work here.

Unfortunatly i have not much time to spend on the forum for the moment ( must study exams), but in september all those exams will be over and i ll have so time to spend on the forum, and hopefully, time to play RS2:Exterminatus :-) .
