Yes, it is true! They're releasing a CGI movie about Warhammer 40K!  It is called Ultramarines.  Grin

Needless to say, I'm ecstatic, since they're my favourite Chapter and of course because the movie will focus on the Space Marines, since it is impossible to reveal all aspects of the Universe in one film.

Now, I know that many, if not all, game to film conversions seriously suck, but all my fears of some total amateur tearing apart the canon were banished when I discovered that the script was written by none other than Dan Abnett!  In his interview he also stated that he shared this fear but was thoroughly reassured when he saw the work in progress.

The Official Website.

Indeed it shall be!

From snippets of information garnered from the interviews I've heard that this has been in the works for some two years now, and five years before they got Dan Abnett to write the script.  So now with the official launch we could be expecting this by the end of 2010!

About time!  Grin

Very pleased they didn't go down the "A-List Hollywood Movie Blockbuster" route and stuck to CGI instead of a psuedo real-life/CGI crossover.

You know, I had dreams about 40k movies and a few times I have dreams of watching 40k cartoons and even been a Space Marine many times so am overjoyed at a idea of a 40k flim.

But the  director they choose Martyn Pick doesn't really bold well for the flim, this guy doesn't have any experience in doing something this big, to be honest, they should had gone to Japan and got someone who does Animes or maybe looked at Hollywood director, but I guess it was a money problem or lack of thinking.

Oh found this, you guys might be interested in reading: http://www.heyuguys.co.uk/2009/11/23/heyuguys-speaks-with-martyn-pick-director-of-wh40k-film/

Being a true 40k fantic with over 18 years in the hobby, am sure whatever the flim is going to be like, am going to enjoy it and be blinded by how bad it is going to be.

I've known about this since September.  Although it's still very exciting.  Grin

Although, despite being an Ultramarines fan, I have to say it kind of bugs me the way they always steal the show.  Hopefully, if this does well, we'll get a sequel film relating to Eldar or Necrons.

Maybe this movie will be about the Marines holding off the hive fleet, which would be awesome.  Hopefully it won't just be an utterly generic "marines vs Chaos" or "marines vs Orks" scenario.
