What 3D modelling program is everyone using at the moment? I have a feeling that Milkshape is not going to be very useful for models of 2000 polies.

I use milkshape to model stuff with 8000 polys mate, there's no problem, cause it's more stable than it ever has been you can use it for just about anything, one of my mates was pissin about and made a model of 15000 polys and it still ran fine, and his machine isn't an uber rig.

if you really wanna change then you should look at Max3D or GMax

I still use MS3D for modelling, but i'm trying to learn 3DS Max for rigging/animation.  Several other team members use Max too.

One of my mates said that the XSI is quite good for the animating. You just need to find a way to port the models from MS3D to XSI (probably need to go through LWO)

they both run a lot of different formats. but yeah, it might work. MS3d is not bad for animations either. but it has 1 drawback: no setting of vertex weights. that means you cannot make organic joints. robot joints are fine though..

Id use max if you can get hold of version 8 - Max is used by 75% of the video games industry and alot of tools within max are very usefull in regards to games.

XSI is indeed the Animation master but in a film sense, its not as usefull as Max in an all round game package.

Maya is better for films and NURBS

I could go on all day Smiley
