I thought i'd give you guys a sneak peek at what i've been working on while we wait for the new feature poll to reveal the next big step.  5.01 fixed some bugs and added the auto balance feature.  5.02 does more of the same sort of thing.

  • Milch reported the HUD getting stuck in zoom mode if you zoom while dying.  This has been fixed in 5.02
  • In low texture detail mode the HUD graphics used to be degraded too, including the crosshairs.  This has also been resolved in 5.02, letting players on older machines aim as clearly as the rest of us.
  • Under certain conditions ex_hive would not end, I think this is fixed, but I need more testers to confirm this
  • Many of you have wondered why levitating Zoanthropes take damage from falling.  No longer in 5.02
  • Canifexes can now kill you even when they are dead.  Beware falling carnifex carcases! They can now crush players with their dead weight alone.  Once it's hit the deck it's harmless.
  • Player rewards for wounds, not kills.  Changed to the scoring system to prevent kill stealing.  A new server variable ex_awardmode controls which scoring mode is used.  Setting ex_awardmode to 0 will use the old system of rewards for kills, the default is 1.
  • Finally, I've made some Mapping Improvements that should make future maps more immersive.  The most noticeable improvement is the addition of Objective Names.  Keep an eye out for the objectives being mentioned in the HUD.

Sweet no more kill stealing. Does that mean doing like five damage will get you 1 point?

Yes, if you do damage you'll get at least 1 point.  In some cases, due to the accumulated rounding up, this might work out at more than the reward you would have got under the old system.  However this also applies to friendly fire and self-harm, which can penalize you at least 1 point.

Additionally i've been re-working some of the view model animations this weekend.  So we should have proper (or at least visible) reload animations for the boltpistol, meltagun and heavy bolter in the next patch.

I'm waiting on the server move to be completed before releasing the patch, which is why it's taking so long to get that patch out.

The feature poll is a more mid-term goal.  It takes a lot of work to add a new class, let alone two.   I would hope they would be ready by around beta 5.10

I may yet extend the poll once we get the server move done and a news post out.

Hard to say how long it will take with a mod.  It depends on what gets contributed.  If I have to do everything it would take about 8 weeks per player class.  Not including some balance testing before it goes to beta.

remember to add half a year onto that for when something breaks and one of the (very tiny) Team goes AWOL.
