I'm sorry if someone's already brought up value suggestions for the Bolter.

When I first started playing, I was a little surprised at how slowly the Bolter fired - it felt more like a semi-automatic weapon than the weapon I was used to reading or seeing in games like Dawn of War.

So, I decided I wanted to mess around with the ex_bolter_rof command tonight. My original goal was just to find a decent speed for a full auto weapon, but realized that if I set it too fast that it would be hard for people to use the ever-useful three-round-burst firing mode.

I think I found a sweet spot.

I'll be trying to set up a (crappy) server designed to test out the value "ex_bolter_rof .236". With a little practice, I can reliably perform three round bursts, and when holding down the mouse button it fires like I would have expected a bolter to actually fire.

This leads to an interesting phenomenon where the first three rounds lead to a sudden spike in recoil, but after that the gun more or less settles down as it continues firing.

Well to explain the logic we used behind the current rate of fire, we took a look at the "fluff" of the bolter in all its iterations to see what its supposed to be.

Within the background material (specifically 2-4th ed 40k) we felt that it was more akin to a micro-rocket launcher rather than a fully automatic weapon as a lot of the artwork and other games show it as. The Firewarrior Bolter we felt was about right (and one of the only good things about that game).

Also for balancing reasons we (at the time, the ROF thing was added later, and it does some damage calculations that reduce damage for greater fire rate) liked that the marines had to place there shots which meant that the nids were not just greeted with a hail of fully automatic gun fire.

The addition of a secondary burst fire mode with cooldown is in the discussion stage, a bit like the RS1 bolter.

Next time were testing anything ill get that RoF plugged into the console and see how it looks.

Thanks for the feedback Doomrider, this was exactly the kind of post I was hoping for when I added this feature.

Dont think dow 1, more Dow 2

in dow 2, the heavy bolt guy has the same rate  as in exterminatus, or of a tactical marine in dow 1...

Maybe, make a better rate of fire, at the cost of a "the specialist" like recoil and spread. but the fex will dont like it.
