pulled from the archives of Warseer is the definitive text on how the boltgun operates:

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=955811&postcount=3

as well as the mroe generalised weapon fluff:

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49966

most usefull, and informative descriptions of how they work.

Pay special attention to the types of bolter rounds used, especially the Hellfire round, you may need to use these in battle...

oh and the vortex bolt, just because of how totally cool it is, although your never gonna see one...

This is interesting. Though unofficial it sounds reliable stuff. Also, this could finally explain how the bolter is said to be so complexly operating with the ammo feed motors.

I hope that the dev team reads at least the bolter part with care Wink

This is good stuff too, though the melta weapon operation was in conflict with official GW fluff I think.

Melta Gun:
"...  The weapon uses the target’s own mass against it meaning that it can break down even the strongest armour with apparent ease."

Never heard that one before.
Seems unlikely that you can do gravity-manipulation with a microwave-gun

Oh, and this one is even better:
Plasma Gun
"A single hydrogen atom is injected into the breech of the weapon, where it is targeted by four separate, miniature lasers"
You really can't create a whole lot of plastma from a single hydrogen atom. Also, it wouldn't even qualify as plasma, it's just a seperated electron and nucleus, at high speed.
Which would make it a particle gun, not a plasma gun...

yeh a melta gun is more a focused microwave gun using the microwaves to vapourise its ammo supply, that description is more like a graviton gun, something entirly different.

Hm.
I've read in GW fluff that the Meltagun shoots a high-velocity jet of gasses, the combination of the gasses immediately prior to leaving the weapon producing an immense amount of heat, essentially making the weapon a 'super flamethrower'. Note that the reaction doesn't in fact ignite the gasses but produces heat in excess of any conventional flame. The gasses would carry a considerable distance due to expanding from the intense heat, which is also a downfall as the the gasses expand and cool to a non-lethal power at a relatively short range.

The description for the Plasma weapons is correct, apart from the amount of hydrogen that is injected into the firing mechanism. The plasma flasks are quite large, and only carry enough for about 10 shots, so I'd estimate around 200ml of compressed hydrogen is fired each time, which would be quite a lot of plasma, and would be incredibly destructive on impact, highly worthy of it's St7 AP2 statline.

I found the Warseer info on Bolters very interesting, the analysis and explanation of their workings highly logical.

thats what a melta gun does, it used microwaves to superheat the fuel.

the meltagun actually uses a super-hot heat ray to melt whatever it hits, and is very effective against vehicles
