This topic concerns me since a long time and therefore I start this topic here now..
Sometimes you get the feeling on a map, that there is an “endless war“ on it. No side can make it to the win and often a stealth win with the Lictor can bring about that (which will be more difficult in the current alpha). After 30 min. or longer on the same map the game get bored. I know that the main problem of “the endless war“ is that the servers have no map time. It wouldnt be bad if they have some. 30 minutes per map should be fine.
The most time we have 6 – 10 players on the server. This isnt the full utilization for a map, but nevertheless this small number of players is enough for “the endless war“ situation. In my eyes there are some problems for this.
The first are bottlenecks. Just one way to an objective isnt enough. At least two ways should be there to spread the players on the map.
The second is the distance between the objectives. If the the distance is to far you have two or three contacts with an enemy before you reach it. The most time you dodnt reach the objective. Therefore I like it that lycantium gots a new objective in the middle of the map. The apo can change that for the Space Marines, but the Tyranids have no healing atm.
The third one are the spawn positions. They shouldnt to near at the objective.This is really a problem if you have a lot of players on the server, because after every spawn wave some players will spawn next to you, if you try to capture an objective. Some meters distance to the objective wouldnt be bad.
I kow that isnt easy to change on the current maps, but this should be a thinking aputting for new maps.
Please dont missunderstand my criticism on the maps. I like them. My favorites are digsite and Ichar IV.
