Building on last month's success and feedback from the community Exterminatus has made some great bounds forward in 2007.  Since last month we've shrunk down the imperial HUD to make it less obtrusive, built in a class selection menu, 6 new playable classes (3 of each team) and all their weapons.  In fact we've added so much stuff into EX this month your heads would probably explode if we included it all into one news post.  So this month were focusing on probably the most fun of our new weapons, the melta gun.

This is the main weapon of the imperial weapons specialist class.  Over the millennia and light years of that the Imperium spans the melta gun has worked in many ways, from a type of suped up flame thrower, using exotic fuels to microwave projector and even a fusion reactor.  However it works, it's super hot, directing a fierce beam of heat over a short range, melting though armor, igniting flammables and burning flesh.

In case you're getting the feeling things are all going the imperial way here's a tyranid taster of what's waiting in the shadows, the stealthy Lictor class.

In reply to last month's call for a Sound Effects engineer Grandmaster B of the Vancouver Film School has started work on some much needed custom sounds for Exterminatus.   Animators are still very much in-demand here.  Big thanks to the alpha testers who have been regularly beaten, slashed, sawn, catapulted, shot, melted, set alight, blown up and generally inconvenienced.  We still have a way to go and things to add and improve, before we go public, but things are going well for Exterminatus in 2007.

The map in the screenshots is coming along nicely too. I assume there is still a lot more details such as rubble piles, decals etc to go in yet?

The map shown in these screenshots is an early version of "Bunker" by Alhaus, who is still very much learning and experimenting with mapping.  Later versions lost the rain and gained swarms of antlions we used to test the effectiveness of EXs weapons against a horde.

While Bunker has it's uses for testing it's probably not going to make the grade for a public release, unless Alhaus puts in a lot more mapping practice   Sad

I love the models and textures, but I always think the real beauty come from the animation so...

I was wondering with the next News Release could you perhaps post up a video or clip of some of the weapon animations? (Don't worry I'm still bearing in mind that you've not got an animation specialist as far as I'm aware)

Oh and FAO Dev Team, I saw a Garrys Mod SWEP of a Flame-thrower, and I thought it may solve you're problems for building a Flamer.

Garrys Mod Dev Forum for Flame-thrower:

Just in-case you were interested, 'cause I think if it can be done with scripts then it can be done with the normal game-code.

I always thought the melta gun was like a 'naplam' shotgun (I collected not played so I don't know the range) take it I was wrong.

Speaking of which will this mod have shotguns, even when the marines aren't  armed with them (well scouts are ) ?

no shotguns, there not a standard SM weapon outside the scouts.

Alo would you rather have a shotgun, or a micro missle launching boltgun? i know my fav of the 2.

Dude, boltguns rock. How can you criticise them? And shotguns are weak... 'spose that's why the IG are using 'em... lol...

Probably not as the only way its gonna fit in ias to remake the whole thing, in which case its easier just to start a whole new map! Tongue
