Hello my name is Glockman01 ( now Punisher ), I'm fairly decent at making sounds and want to contribute to the game. I just need to know what you're looking for in the ways of format and sounds. I personally am a BIG fan of 40k and play Nids, so I have an idea of what they can sound like. Along with space marines from the several games that have been released in past years. Just getting a heads up before I devote time into making some.

Hello Glockman! The Source engine uses 16 or 24 bit WAVs up to 44,100 Hz. Some of our contributors have had trouble exporting 24bt WAVs from their tools, so I have become quite adept at converting them, so you dont need to worry too much about the precise format. Sound effects that would be particularly nice to have: Carnifex bio-plasma attack, roughly 500ms Space marine death sounds (currently using some electronically distorted Hl2 sounds, which are OK, but a bit 1960s Dr Who), we need a variety of these. Charging Tyranid sounds (to replace the HL2 sprint sound), we need a variety of these too.

Alright. I'm going to spend a few hours this weekend waking around recording sounds, distorting them, etc. What is the mechanics of the sprint? Is it basically like Fleet of Foot for the nids? Using a similar script for Gordon in HL2?

It works much the same as HL2, were currently using some roaring sounds contributed by GAS (before we knew we needed roaring sounds) and they are a bit too long and repetitive, so we would benifit some variety.

We dont have any mechanism in-game for players to use marine battle cries, we literally just need death sounds like "argh" and "urgh" with the appropriate distortions (I have already applied simialr distortions to those you appear to be using on the HL2 male pain sounds, which were looking for someone to improve on).
We also dont have any plasma guns, so I can show you what their reload would look like. We are not planning on adding plasma weapons until after the first release, even then it is an either or choice to be weighed against other alternatives.
I am afraid your tyranid vocals sound too human, we are already using some more suitable (but less than perfect) animal based sounds. Your most usable contribution here is the run sound, which I image would suit the vocals of the Lictor class or one of the tyranid bio-weapons or HUD elements.

Alright. I'll see if I can make some more HUD elements and a bunch of death sounds for the Marines. The Tyranid sounds were just quick and cut dry in 10 minutes to see if it was what you were looking for. I'm going to look for some real animal sounds and greatly distort them for a less human effect. For the gun effects like reloading and shooting, I have access to a variety of weapons and the such and will be able to make a few of those sounds as well, I just need to see the animations w/o sound for some ideas. I'll go to work on some death sounds and maybe a few HUD elements. To-Do for Me:Make a lot of Space Marine Death sounds. Look into some HUD sound elements. Distort Requests / Questions For Chrome:May I see some animations of guns reloading, etc. What are some of the HUD elements you have? Is there a warning health low "beeper"? Do You need health kit sounds or do you not have that element? What are the guns you are using besides the obvious Boltgun? Is there an easier way to contact you? Thanks for your time, Punisher

Tyranid weaponry tends to regenerate its ammunition so they do not have animations (although they do have 2 audio cues for ¨out of ammo¨ and ¨ammo regenerated¨). Marine weapons could have been very tricky to animate (and we are animation n00bs), so they largely just dip out of frame while reloading (the lazy solution). The most important HUD element EX ahs added is the mission notifier as seen here http://www.moddb.com/mods/exterminatus/images/spawning-into-battle , this currently does not have an audio cue and could really do with one for each team. Secondly the HL2 zoom feature has come to my attention in recent weeks as being too HL2-like when testers are playing as tyranids, so we could use a new sounds for whatever the tyranid equivalent is going to me. We do not have a low health beeper, that is more of a single player game thing. There are no health kits or healing stations in EX, to keep the pace of the game quick and try and reduce camping. All the weapons for EX (except for some reason the lictor talons) can be found at http://www.40ksource.com/gallery.php?type=WeaponsI can be emailed or PM´d using the buttons on my mini-profile to the left. Our you could try our IRC channel (#rspecies2 on the quakenet network) or PM me via steam.

I've been pretty busy, so tell me what you think. I have several more to make, but these should do for the weekend These are the marine Deaths. They are easy to make, tell me if need more, want something different. DeathDeath 2Death 3Death 4Death 5
These are some reloading sounds I made from various weapons. Tell me if they are kinda what you are looking for. Shooting MeltaMarine Pistol ReloadMelta end shootingHeavy Bolter ReloadMelta ReloadBoltgun Reload
No game is complete without the "annoying announcer guy"! Tell me what you think. Marine LoseMarine WinMarine New OBJMarine Lost OBJ
And finally, some random Tyranid sounds, tell me if these are any better. These could be announcer sounds ( The names have typos, for some reason the program wouldnt let me spell out the word warning.) Warning 2WarningRandomRandom2No Ammo NIDHopefully these are more of what you need to make a more immersible experience to the game. The sounds are what obviously make the game for me, and hopefully these are more to par of what you need If you are interested, I can also put some effort in making you guys a theme that you could use in the menu and the such, I can possibly even get a small band together to make it cool. What do you think?

Thanks for those Pun1$er , I think they could use a some more work before they will fit in with EX. The deaths sounds I feel need to be faster and more intense, with an additional layer of distortion/noise (I have in mind more of an intercom than an echo chamber). These weapon sounds seem a bit lightweight and lacking in drama compared to the exaggerated chunkiness of marine weapons. The melta sound was amusingly 1950s raygun like The announcer sounds like he need a few more coffees so he can get really excited about his announcements, they are just too slow for the pace of the game. Simple bleeps, pings and bings are more suitable cues because they don't need to be translated (one of the other reasons their are no battle cries in EX). Can I hear the ¨bwossh¨ sound that starts each announcement on its own? ¨No Nid Ammo¨ is just too artificial sounding, this is a common problem with mixing sounds for tyranids a certain metallicness finds its way in. The other tyranid sounds just don't feel big enough or urgent enough for our large tyranids. These aren't quite what we are after, but I think you are headed in the right direction. I know this sound lark is tough gig, but as you said the right sound can make the game. I hope you will try some more samples and techniques and come back with further refinements.
