Happy new year 2009 from the Exterminatus mod team.  This month we have some screen shots from ChromeAngels new map "Hive", set in the undercity spires of a heavily industrialized imperial "hive" world.  Hive is still in it's early development, but already has exciting combat across multiple levels.

We would like to offer our thanks to Botje of the Battlefield 40k mod for letting us make use of his dedicated server for testing purposes and all the effort he has put into getting it running.  We would also like to thank BoomerangPython of the OnlyWar2 C&C mod for sharing some of the 40k themed models made for OnlyWar with us, we plan to make use of them in some of our forthcoming maps.

While were sending out our gratitude, we should also mention Jay Stelly from [http://www.valvesoftware.com/ Valve Software] who was very prompt in helping us find the source of a crash we have been experienced during testing.  It turns out their is a flaw with the version of the Source game engine we are using that occasionally causes it to crash when a player uses voice communications.  This bug has apparently been fixed in the later OrangeBox version of the engine.  It looks like we might have to port all of the changes we made for Exterminatus to this newer version of the game engine to make it stable.

Poll : Do you have an OrangeBox game (Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half-life Episode 2 OR Left 4 Dead) on Steam?

Sorry for the long gap between news posts, progress has been rather limited by the teams addiction to Fallout 3 (damn that game knows how to draw you in...) along with the books and movies we got for Christmas, however it hasn't stopped the mod just yet.

I have Half-life and L4D, and I like the prospect of hive. Would be a nice change from the open field battle zones.

I don't, but it doesn't actually matter for the purposes of playing a mod. A few mods have switched over to it now for it's increased functionality, and you don't need an orangebox game to play them. You can even develop for the OB engine if you don't have it. Those of you with just HL2/CS:S etc will notice in your SDK that you can select OB as engine.

Sry if this post is overkill, just wanted to let you know there is zero player base issues with switching to OB, in case you were wondering Smiley

I have the Orange Box.

Good to get another update guys!  I am liking those screenshots! The architecture I can see is looking very Warhammer 40K gothic! Good going!  Grin

Just a note, as the only way to correct the gamer killing bug thats been plagueing Chromeangel and that the OB is readily available via its SDK, EX has begun the conversion process.

Chromeangel has logged so many errors and bugs in the last week its amazing he's still working on it.

But yes, OB on the way.
