But they do anyway...

Quite a few of the characters go into battle with their helmets off. Maybe it's too inspire their troops. Or maybe its so that the minitures are more striking. :-/

taking their helmets off is to make the model more striking more than anything, i mean in a war zone would you take your helmet off?

Are space marine armour suits sealed up like a space suit? So that they can perform in unbreathable atmospheres or in a vacuum? Because that could make for some very interesting settings.

Of course, in that case, they would *really* need to keep their helmets on.

yeh they are.

The space marines armour is entirely sealed so they can operate in serveral adverse conditions. There are stories of assults on low grav moons by marine chapter (those vent things on the side of their backpacks are actually monouvering thrusters, the vents are the perfortated bits at the top of the pack), Undersea attacks on ocean floor complexes and into the top layers of gas giants to attack ships hiding there.

now what a map those would make...

given how adaptable they are, i would say yes although more underwater than space.

you could always do the SM attack on a dormant hive shjip as it exits the warp, they take a little while to wake up after a warp trip and SM squads assult them and set charges in them to take them out at this point during a nid invasion.

You said space, I say...
Space hulk action!  Cheesy
The mysterious warp-floating space hulks are often infested with Tyranids. And the SM could be sent on a mission to retrive some long lost artifact or secret that are pressumed to be onboard the space hulk. Exactly as in the Ragnars Claw second novel.

yeah, a space hulk action would be good.
Different types of map environments would be great.

Genestealers at least can function in a vacuum. Somewhere in the fluff is a bit about most space hulks being depressuried and open to the vacuum, but the 'stealers can survive in it.

I think its safe to say that other tyranids would be able to survive in vacuum too.

nidz can breath under water, atleast according to the 2:ed Codex..believe it was when they stormed "Tyrant" (Planet from which they got their name, if anyone should not know) that they had to walk under water as 90% of the surface was covered in it Cheesy
