A favicon is the thing in the top right next to the nav bar.
You simply get a .ico and name it favicon in your root folder with you index and that's it.
The common browsers, like firefox and (ugh) IE7 will look for it automatically. 
I found a great one for the mod, below is the link.

sorry, whats it actually do?

im very reluctant to install anything into my IE without understanding it and the webby it comes from is somewhat vague.

I think Puni$her means I should modify the EX website, forum and wiki to include favicon links.  It's certainly something to consider when were polishing things up for ahead of a public release.

Yes, sorry I thought you understood what I meant. You put that in the root folder for your web site, where the index is.

Favicons for website branding, how they actually show up varies from browser to browser.  Firefox shows a sites favicon in the address bar, on tabs and bookmarks.
