Hey guys,

Just another friendly idea regardin this vid: http://www.moddb.com/mods/exterminatus/videos/a-heavy-time#imagebox

I noticed that the heavy bolter only took a few seconds to reload. Maybe that should be increased to balance it out with power it sustains? Maybe even like a time bar across the bottom, middle of the screen for the time to reload. I think it would be a good strategy to get the tyranids to think, they can wait for the bolter to be reloaded b4 they attack.

Only a suggestion.

the HB has a 150 shot clip, reloading is an optional extra most of the time so the reload time is mostly irrelivant.

To put it into perspective 3-4 HB shots will drop a warrior. The Heavy bolters true flaw lies in his speed (or lack of it).

umm... your heavy bolter marine reloading should be the crucial and tense moment where the rest of the squad has to double their efforts in order to not be swarmed. For the Marine to just wait two seconds and start annihilating everyone again would kind of eliminate that opportunity for the Tyranids, along with the tension that goes for the Marines.

In practice, a Heavy Bolter is not as destructive as you would belive, mainly due to the Tyranids ability to move quickly and its reduced accuracy at long range. Your also shooting at other players, so the unexpected and the innovative will be thrown at you.

Additionally, part of the design was that each class would have an effective counter class in the other team. Both the Lictor and the Zoathrope provide this, although the lictors stealth based abilities are far more effective/disruptive.

Tyranids have a lot of disruption tactics in there which also can limit the marines ability to function effectivly, the Zoathropes blast also obsqures vision in its area, the lictor as mentioned can get behind you, the warriors ranged weapon while weak can obsqure your vision, the fex is a bullet magnet and immune to small arms fire.

So the reload time of the Heavy Bolter, in order to give Tyranids an "advantage" is not as critical as you may think. They have a lot of tools available to make the marines life difficult.

In saying all that, we have not begun our final set of balance testing, so the true effectiveness of all the classes is not yet known, the above is how its supposed to work.

Well, okay, sure, it's just that you made the HB sound super-powerful when you said it could down a warrior in 3 shots.

it can down a warrior in 3 shots, if the warrior is stupid enough to stand still about 3 meters away from the guy with the heavy bolter. Very few people belive this is a valid tactic for the tyranids.

Its sometimes hard to convay whats actually going in in game, since most people on this forum have never played Ex, there's a lot going on in a game. More videos is sure to be the answer.
