I can't understand why you chose the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and yet, at the same time, thought it would be a good idea to pick the Source engine. Source is incapable of the large scale battles that Warhammer is popular for. Plus, it's technically an upjumped Quake 1 engine, so that's kind of a downside.

Exterminatus is being developed by much the same people as worked on the Rival Species mod for Half-Life 1.  Source was a logical choice as it has much the same structure for modding, reasonable documentation and tools familiar to HL modders as well as being a graphical upgrade, incorporating physics and displacement terrain.

Yeah and it makes it accessible to loads more people since, and this is taken from statistics, the games on the source engine are played by many, many people.

Who doesn't have HL2DM? Or Gmod?

Well, okay, but you could have gotten better graphics and physics if you would have upgraded to, hell, not even the Unreal 3 engine, just the Unreal 2.5 engine. "It's easy" doesn't really churn out as a good excuse to me, the potential player, when it means your mod was less than it could have been.

Wait, they're aiming for profit?

Theres already mods using the Unreal engines, and our experience is based on Valves tech. We know how there editors work and are aware of how there code operates and for us it was the logical option out of all the engines out there. Chromeangel has already stated this.

Additionally i personally feel we have the best physics going with the source engine, and "graphics" are nothing without gameplay. In the end its our call.

Additionally our plan does not include huge battles on a massive scale, but small conflicts between well armed forces. Most of the background for space marines has them as surgical strike units, specilising in spearheading assults and decapitation strikes. We are more interested in this than the massive battles commonly seen on a tabletop.

Your claim on profit is a bit of a long reach, we make no money from this, quite the opposite as it eats our resources in both using our spare time and the cost of maintining this forum and the related hosting for the web site and eventually the server with which to run the games.

Yeah I didn't say anything about profit, just that is would have a large member base and that would be good, because after all this work I am sure the makers want it to be popular.  Perhaps, if it is as good as I think it will be, it will even get an announcement by Steam!  Grin

Oh...ah well...

I have a huge amount of friends who love WH40K and when this is released I will drop it on them like an orbital bombardment.

I doubt this will have any trouble getting attention though!  Grin

Agreed. I have several friends that bought Half-Life 2 just to play Exterminatus on its release.
