Here is the FAQ to deal with those recurrent questions that come along from time to time. If you have a question thats not on this list, then ask it and it will probably be added here at some point.

So lets begin!

Most Asked Question Ever
Q: Ive just wandered in here for the first time and think your mod is dead. Is your mod dead? (Note:Translated from the original l33t speak for clarity)
A: We like to update the news generally monthly (give or take a few days), we upload images when there fit for public consumption and we answer any posts on a regular basis. I personally think that a monthly status update is more than reasonable. So no, were not dead.

General Questions
Q: Why cant I see any servers for this mod?
A: The in-game server browser seems to be very un-reliable, a list of servers is being maintained in the Manual.

Q: There are no players on the server, where is everyone?
A: EX is still growing, but we don't have enough players to keep the servers populated 24/7.  We get together for games at regular scheduled times that are posted on the steam community group.  Join a scheduled game to play against the most players.

Q: How do I change class?
A: The classes in EX are unlocked as rewards for your performance in your current spawn current.  You will be shown a menu to select your new class before you re-spawn IF you have unlocked them.  Kill the enemy and capture objectives to earn rewards (the more powerful the enemy class the greater the reward).

Q: When will the next release be?
A: When it's ready.

Q: Will there be Chaos/Eldar/Tau/Necrons/Squats in this mod?
A: No.  We learned a while back doing Rival Species that the more teams you have the harder it is to balance everything out. So its only going to be Imperium Vs Tyranids.

Q: You did not mention the Imperial Guard, does that mean they will be in it?
A: Later on they may be playable, but we will have to see how things go. They are planned to be AI controlled, holding points and aiding the space marine team.

NOTE: Due to AI issues the PDF are all dead, killed by the bugs and are currently found lying face down in pools of there own blood. We may revive them later

Q: Can I join the Dev team? I have l33t ninja skillz!
A: Prove it.  If anyone wants to be on the Dev team you have to make and finish a project that will be usable in the game. It will have to meet the standards of the team to get you in.

Q: I can map. Can I map for this mod? and will it get me on the Dev team?
A: Yes you can map for this mod, do anything you want. If you map is of a high enough quality and your going to produce more of them for us then it may get you on the Dev team. See here:
Mapping

Q: Having looked at you models/animations/content I believe they are poor and think you should make new ones, will you make new ones?
A: It depends, we have our own views on what things should look like and how things should operate. Our artistic Interpretation if you will of the original source material and thus were in the main happy with how things are but if you can provide us with very good reasons to back up your argument we will consider it. If you think you can do better then we invite you to prove yourself and do it. If it truly is better its liable to be added to the game and you will be thanked and credited for the content.

Q: I saw (insert anything from 40k here) work like this in DoW/DoW 2, clearly you are in error with your interpretation of said object/event/thing. Will you re-consider your interpretation based on what has been seen in DoW/DoW 2?
A: Bluntly, No. DoW and DoW 2 are both games based upon the Warhammer 40k universe, however they are games first. This means that liberties have had to be taken in order for the games to work. Thus we consider DoW & DoW 2 as secondary sources at best and totally wrong at worst. Our primary source is of course the Tabletop game and its supporting literature (the rulebooks and background stories).

Q: Dude why don’t you just like ripp all the models from DoW 1&2? You would have the mod done in a snap!
A: That’s copyrite infringement and were very against that sort of thing, so are Games Workshop to the point they will deep strike lawyers on anyone who does it. All content must be made specifically for this mod and by the IP terms on GW's web site. So no we wont, and submitting stuff from DoW as your own work to speed us up wont help either, we will know where it came from so please for everyone’s sake don’t.

What of the Space Marines?

Q: What equipment will be available for the Space Marines? Can I have a terminator librarian to kill the Tyranids with?
A: Initially we're working from the premise of a small kill team on the part of the Space Marines, which means current thinking is a Tactical Squads worth of equipment. Equipment will only be added if it has some value to the game, so no mega titan killer las cannons and probably no gravity guns.

Q: What about other player classes? Can I play as a Dreadnaught like in Rival Species or a Terminator?
A: Again were thinking small here, so probably no terminators or dreadnaughts running around at the moment. Maybe later.

Q: Why Ultramarines?  Can I play as Blood Angels, or Lamenters, Or Space Wolfs?
A: Only if you make the skins and models yourself. We are using Ultramarines due to their affiliation with the Tyanids and strict following of the codex astartes.  At they time of the selection UM did not have there own codex and fancy romaneque features, only generic SM models.  By including generic Marine models it was intended that fans of particular chapters could easily re-skin the marine models.

Q: Can I drive tanks?
A: Not at this time. There will be tanks and the like in game, but they wont be interactive so no running around in a landraider pulling a battlefield 1942 and camping the spawns.

Q: I see the marines have Chainswords and a knife, is there a melee system?
A: No, theres no melee system in place like in Rival Species, you can still try and hit stuff with the above however, if you really wanna get that close to a tyranids claws.

Whats Happening with the Tyranids?

Q: Hows this synapse thing supposed to work then?
A: The tyranid players will choose a synapse class, initially the Tyranid Warrior or the Synapse Node. These classes will have access to a selection of Broods, which are effectively your wargear. The brood will be a AI NPCs which will follow you around and do you bidding in a similar manor to that of the Antlions and Rebels in Half Life 2. You will have a control range in which they will follow your commands and the tyranids will always outnumber the Space Marines thanks to the AI broods.

NOTE: due to complexities of the AI system the broods are on hold untill a later release, we can make them work however the workload required to do so is massive and thus were holding it till later.

Q: So whats in these broods then?
A: Well there will be a selection based on the tyranid codex. A close combat brood of hormigaunts and a ranged brood of Termigaunts are the initial ideas being used. If it goes well then we will diversify that.

Q: What about the Warrior? can I get wargear for him?
A: This has not been decided yet and is still up for debate, some say allow the warrior to pick weapons, some say give it a default set only as the Brood is supposed to be the wargear and some say give them war gear dependent on what brood they choose.

Q: Can I play as a Carnifex? or as a Lictor? Or even a Zonathrope with l33t psyker powers?
A: Yes. The above creatures will be usable and have there own role in the way things works. For those unfamiliar with the Table Top game the Carnifex is a living tank with very large claws, the Zonathrope is a psyker with the ability to produce long range blasts of energy and the Lictor is a silent hunter able to hide in the open and track its prey. They will make up the elite classes of the tyranids.

Q: What about the Hive tyrants?
A: same as the imperial guard, probably later on once we know how well the mod is doing.

Nice web site and forum, is there anything i should know?

Q: I enjoy spamming forums, can i spam yours.
A: No, doing so will get you on the ban list real fast.

Q: I really want (insert anything from 40k) in this mod, i want it so much ill use all caps in my posts talking about how much i want it. So will you make it and put it in your mod?
A: No. We don't like to be told what to do, we would not come round to your place of work and tell you what to do so we expect the same thing from you. Shouting via use of the caps lock wont get you anywhere.

Q: I would like to see (insert something from 40k here) in this mod, i'm gonna have a go at making it. Would you put it in if it was good enough?
A: It depends on what it is but all content and suggestions are welcome. If you make something thats of a decent quality then it will probably be included in the mod somewhere. If you build it we will use it (probably).

Q: Can you post more screenshots and videos for us! Like right now!
A: No, what you see is what we have. Were all very busy with various things so stuff like media is created as we go about the usual. We don't have spare so don't ask for it since we don't have time to make it specifically.

define melee?

There is no "melee mechanic" as was the case in RS1. Its more close combat via the tyranids talons, you just swing and if somsone is under your crosshair they take a hit if your close enough.
