Every ten alpha releases I aim to produce a Beta release of EX, a stable build that players who don't want to put up with the oddities that crop up in alpha testing can play.  Release Candidate 8.37 may be the next of these stable builds.  A few things needed smoothign out in the previous candidate, i'm hoping this version will fare better.


The ModDB mirrors unlock at 13:00 GMT, if it's busy or not working the installer can be downloaded from 40ksource.com or the zip file.  Please try the ModDB first.

Install the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer
  • Navigate to the "Tools" section on your Steam games "Library"
  • Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer"
  • Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.
  • You can exit once the menu has finished loading.

Install the latest Exterminatus Release Candidate
  • If you already have a copy of the EX, delete it.
  • Run the installer and follow it's instructions.
  • Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Beta 8.37 listed in your library.

As the title suggests i'm thinking of releasing a new EX Beta shortly, so it's vitally important I have reports of any outstanding balance issue or bugs, so I can try and fix them before the Beta.  Please report any bug on the EX steam discussion group ( Bugs or similarly on the topic of Balance ).  Releasing a Beta means doing some extra publicity work for me.  If you have any cool videos or screen shots of recent EX builds please let me know as I can always use more material to promote EX.

The chapter skin packs for the Imperial Fist and Raven Guard chapters have been updated to include skins for the new Dreadnaught class.


Tweaks
  • More lighting tweaks to City Conflict and i've moved the landing pad/generators to make them slightly easier to capture.  Fixed a dreadnaught sticking point in the marine spawn.
  • BS barbs are now rendered black, this looks less wired than the previous transparency.
  • Buffed Flamer damage from 24 to 30.
  • Re-lit ex_hive to use more saturated lighting.  Fixed a dreadnought sticking point in the tyranid start area.
  • Cleared out all kill notices when the map changes.

Bug fixes
  • Fixed Barbed Strangler (BS) invulnerability, now takes only 2 Boltgun hits to kill it.
  • Fixed flamers pushing their targets back.


The chapter skin packs for the Darkangel and Salamanders chapters have been updated to include skins for the new Dreadnaught class.


Tweaks
  • Re-lit the City Conflict map under the guidance of DontAsk4470.
  • BS pulls gradually increasing it's strength.
  • BS damage increases the longer a victim is held.
  • BS pulls terminators and dreadnaughts less than other marines.
  • BS pulls vertically at 1% strength.
  • Increased the cost of BS to 50 points to reflect it's new capabilities.
  • Flamer cost reduced to reflect it's reduced function.
  • Flames set by the flamer make a burning noise.

Known issue
  • BS barbs still look wired.

Bug fixes
  • Fixed barbed strangler not actually attacking.
  • Fixed death notices sticking in the dead menu.
  • Fixed tyranid animation bug where it was using BS aiming for the DS.

Tweaks
  • Tweaked the BS texture to match better.
  • Tweaked the warrior texture around the top of the arms.
  • Slightly buffed BS damage.

Known issue

Balance
  • Nerfed Barbed Stranger (BS) speed from 3000 to 2000.
  • Nerfed BS range from 1400 to 1000.
  • Buffed smoke grenade launch speed from 600 to 1200.

The chapter skin packs for the Ultramarines and Chrimson Fists chapters have been updated to include skins for the new Dreadnaught class.


Bug fixes
  • Limited BS attacks to line of sight.
  • Fixed a gap in the City Conflict map.
  • Fixed the custom kill icon for the Devourer getting cropped.
  • Attempted to fix the Dreadnaught player model twitching.

Tweaks
  • Vines added to indicate players trapped by a BS.
  • BS is now aligned to the surface it's attached to.
  • Added pull and twist effects to the BS attack.
  • Draw death notices over the dead HUD.
  • Tweaked HUD objective maker(s), should stop them getting "stuck".
  • Increased the size and speed of the smoke grenade effect.
  • Changed the central area on ex_lycantium.

Known issue
  • BS launcher not playing it's firing sound.

  • Barbed Strangler view model and textures from Chris Wassum.
  • Barbed Strangler firing and impact sound effect from DontAsk4470.
  • The barbed stangler launches a creature that sits in wait and pulls it's victms toward it.  Each weapon can only launch 1 creature at a time.  Relaoding sacrifices the current creature and allows the weapon to fire again.

The Barbed Strangler model was spotted on DeviantArt and contributed to the mod back in 2008 and has been waiting to be implemented ever since.  Special thanks to Chris Wassum for the original model and DontAsk4470 for throwing together new sound effects at such short notice.

Bug fixes
  • DontAsk4470 has optimized the smoke grenade effect to reduce lag.
  • Tyranid warrior now plays the correct aim animations when using the Devourer.
  • Custom kill icon for the Devourer.
  • Fixed some "missing" sounds.

Known issues
  • Dreadnaught player model is still twitchy.
  • Barbed Strangler isn't pulling correctly.
  • Barbed Strangler isn't rendering it's barbs.
  • Barbed Strangler using a placeholder model for it's creature part.

Feature

I am looking for contributions to pad out the Tyranids armoury for Beta 4.0.  Currently Wikkyd is working on adapting existing wargear to work with more classes, but we can always use more.

  • New boltpistol shot sound effect from DontAsk4470.
  • Improved the textures on the dreadnaughts legs.
  • Taris Ultra updated so dreadnaugts can leave the marine start .

Known issues

Tweaks
  • Improved the textures on the dreadnaught and it's weapons.  Thanks to DontAsk for his contributions.
  • All the "Letterbox" style menus have been slimmed down, to allow more icons across the screen.
  • Class and wargear menus show your points in the top right (for comparison to costs), this should help you gauge if you can afford that venomfex before you choose it.
  • Class menu details now includes the number of players using the highlighted class (so you don't end up with 5 medics).
  • Class and Wargear is purchased at spawn time, so you can go back through the menus.
  • Lycantium has been updated adding a new route between the Monument and Courtyard objectives.
  • Tweaked the origin of the 3rd person dreadnaught flamer effect.

DontAsk4470 is working on a sweet new cinematic in SFM to give the Dreadnaught a suitably epic introduction.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed glitches releated to Biovore ammo consumption.  Mines now use as much ammo as shots that explode on impact.  The biovore will no longer go into negative ammo(with associated integer overflow).
  • Opened up the catacomb entrances in ex_vally to allow Dreadnaughts to exit.

Balance
  • Buffed Meltagun wargear from 15 to 25 points.

The Betrayer has been working on a plan to revise the EX menu system, please read his proposal and give us your feedback.  The Betrayer is still looking at improving the Dreadnaugths 3rd person animations.

  • Players now have to pay the correct price for the assault specialist (meltagun) wargear.
  • Fixed, Flamer effect vanishes when you aim below the horizon.
  • Attempted fix for the Dreadnaught glitchy 3rd person animation.
  • Fixed the Dreadnaight cannot attack for 10 seconds bug.
