Alpha 8.22 features a new Dreadnaught class for the marine team, makes the melta gun an assaullt marine weapon.

Special thanks go to StormWolf 597 for kicking off the Dreadnaught project with his player model, Wikkyd for unwrapping it and DontAsk5570 for provinding the sound effects.

Installer Alpha 8.22 (647,515 KB)

Zip File Alpha 8.22 (635,206 KB)

The FTP is on the blink again, so i'm relying on ModDB to authorise and distribute this version.

Install the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer
  • Navigate to the "Tools" section on your Steam games "Library"
  • Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer"
  • Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.
  • You can exit once the menu has finished loading.

Install the latest Exterminatus Alpha
  • If you already have a copy of the EX alpha, delete it.
  • Run the alpha installer and follow it's instructions.
  • Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Beta 8.21 and Exterminatus Alpha listed in your library.

Features
  • New Dreadnaught player class.  Very expensive class, should be tough to kill.  Testing for balance and obvious bugs.
  • New Dreadnaught player model by Stormwolf597, Wikkyd and ChromeAngel.
  • New Dreadnaught player sounds by DontAsk4470.
  • Flamer and Siege drill weapon combo for the Dreadnaught.
  • New Flamer fist and Siege drill weapon combo model by Stormwolf597, Wikkyd and ChromeAngel.
  • Moved the melta gun wargear set from the specialist to the assault marine.  This should cost more than the regular assault marine.

Tweaks
  • Wargear system has been modified to allow for kits of different points cost on the same class.
  • Player class system has been modified to handle player sound (such as battle cries and footsteps) differently.

This is the first Alpha since Beta 8.21 with quite a few changes so i'm expecting this version to be more of a work in progress than usual. I'm forecasting crashes and wired things happening.

Known Bugs
  • New Dreadnaught skins are not finished.
  • New weapon skins are not finished.
  • Flamer effect vanishes when you aim below the horizon.
  • Placeholder particle systems for the Dreadnaught and it's weapons.
  • Placeholder HUD artwork for the Dreadnaught weapons.
  • Dreadnaught cables are visible in first person.

In order to improve the stability of the web presence, we've decided to shut down registration for the forum. That is mostly because the legions of spam bots are relentlessly registering new accounts while the legions of Exterminatus fans are using the steam group instead of this forum. (If I am not mistaken, there are only very few new posts this year.) Of course any registered user can still post and manual registration is still possible.

In the same instant I will also finally update the forum software to the most recent version (with it's security updates) in the hopes that this forum stops spamming my system logs with errors caused by legacy PHP code.

Update 1: I've now deactivated user registration and updated the forum version to 1.1.21 which went entirely painless. I'll write another update once I know what the outcome with respect to the system logs is.

We are moving the web site to a new location. That includes the forum and therefor I have to put it into maintenance mode for about two days. It takes about two days for the DNS to update to the new location. So if you decide to make a comment or discuss a topic during the next two days, it's likely to get lost during the move. I'll update this topic as soon as the move starts and again once it has finished.

Update 1: As of now, 13:00 12.07.2015, the move is on progress. It may be ongoing for about two days due to DNS server updates being pushed so slowly.

Update 2: As of now, 23:25 13.07.2015, the move has been finished :-).

Exterminatus Beta 8.21 massively improves on the Lictor cloaking effect used in the version we released in January, adds a whole new map and inclues a great deal of new sound effects.

Installation instructions
  • Install the "Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer" to your steam library (it's listed under "tools").
  • Run the Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer at least once.  You can exit once the menu has finished loading.
  • If you already have a copy of the EX beta, delete it.
  • Run the Beta installer and follow it's instructions.
  • Restart Steam.  You should now see both the Exterminatus Beta 8.21 listed in your library.

Since the last Beta a considerable amount of rebalance has been done to tweak the Tyranid team.  Genstealers have been elevated toa reward class, reducing the Tyranids easrly game advantage in speed and access to shortcuts.   The new Lictor cloak required a substantial amount of tweaking since the Lictor is now rendered completely invible to his prey.  Zoanthrope's healing ability is now part of the default wargear and is triggered using the Reload key, but has been nerfed to reduce the health it grants to most classes.  Biovores can now bombard targest without fear of hurting their teammates (and being penalised points for friendly fire) while actually doing more dmage to their intended targets, however the rate of fire has been reduced to keep tem from being overwhelming.

On the marines side of the mod, Tarantulas now handle damage much more like regular teammates resisting friendly fire and flames in general.   The Specialist's Maltagun and Plasmagun have both been upgaded to bring tem onto par with the Flamer.  The veteran classes powersword now cuts through Carnifex armor, making it much easier to take out the big bugs from up close.  The marine also have a batch of new sound effects and battle cries, thanks to DontAsk and Stormwolf597.

The new map in version 8.21 is called ex_forge, and is set on an imperial forge-world, an industrialised planet wher a great deal of the imperium's tools, machines and weapons are constructed.  ex_forge features 5 capturable objectives, each with multiple aceess routes and an extensive set of air ducts allowing the regular routes to be bypassed.  DontAsk has provided whole new sets of ambient machine noises and adeptus mechanicus decals for this map.

Since Bloodravens replaced the Ultramarines in Beta 8.10 i've been working on the chapter skin packs to make them work with the latest version of EX.  You can find skin packs for most of the major chapters on the 40ksource.com downloads page.  I'm hoping to extend these packs in future to include battle cries specific to their chapters for which we need voice actors to record the lines.

As usual there is a large number of niggly bugs and minor asthetic improvements throughut the mod that just make 8.21 that much more polished than the version we released in January 2015.  A full chnage log can be found on the EX ModDB page.

If you're wondering what to expect to see from EX next, StormWolf597 and Wikkyd have been working on a Dreadnaught player model for the marine team...
